Into the Abyss Update for Grounded 2 includes a feature that allows you to build your base underwater. You can build an underwater base by placing your bed, crafting stations, and other things in it. However, you need to unlock a few special building materials and items before you can start. In this guide, we’ll show you how to unlock underwater buildings and what you need to build your own underwater base.
How To Unlock Underwater Buildings

In order to build a base on top of the water, you need the Buoyant Foundations recipe. You have to go to the bridge at Skunk Pond and find the chip that is close by. Then, you should proceed to the Ranger Station and buy the recipe for the Buoyant Foundations using 2,500 Raw Science. Once you have unlocked this recipe, you can use it to make a base above the water in the pond.
How To Build Underwater

There are some special resources and parts needed before you can start building. The main resources are:
- Phantom Quartz Shard
- Crushed Quartz
- Fire Bricks.
Once you have got access to the underwater building set, there are some more things that you will need. Pebblet and Clay Foundations can be used underwater. In addition to that, there is also something known as Horsetail Foundation, which is similar to scaffolding and can be used to build the basic structure.
Mushroom Floors can also be used. These are especially beneficial for making the platform bigger underwater. For roofs, you currently need Snake Scale Roofs. These are the main roof pieces that can be used underwater. If you don’t want to use a traditional roof, you can also use Mushroom Floors to create a flat top.
How Underwater Building Works

After entering the water, you should go into the build menu, and then you will be able to see all the special buildings that can be built in water. The reason why this is important is that the game displays underwater special buildings only when you are already underwater. Thus, it becomes easy to see what pieces you can use. After that, it is possible to start building the base with the help of Marine Walls, doors, arching walls, roofs, and other underwater buildings.
The point here is that Marine Walls have gaps and do not create a closed structure. As a result, you cannot stay safe and breathe in such a building. Thus, it becomes necessary to build a Bubble Maker or several Bubble Makers to survive underwater. It is also possible to wear a diving suit in order to be able to stay underwater.
The Bubble Maker is one of the most useful things that you will find helpful when building your underwater base. This item provides you with a space where your oxygen regenerates when you are standing above it. You can unlock the Bubble Maker using Horsetail research. You might also think of making an Underwater Bed, which will require Cattail Fluff and other resources. When building your base, make sure the Bubble Maker is placed somewhere easy to reach.
