Traits are essentially substats that randomly appear when you acquire new equipment. They can enhance your maximum health and mana, boost your chances of hitting enemies, lower your cooldowns, and more. While having gear with good traits might not seem crucial during the leveling process in Throne and Liberty, if you’re aiming to optimize your character for endgame content, you definitely shouldn’t overlook Traits. In this article we have mentioned the ways to unlock new trait slots in Throne and Liberty.
How to Unlock New Trait Slots
You can unlock new traits for your gear, be it a weapon, armor, or accessory, in two ways. First, you can buy an Extract from the Auction House that has a different trait from the same item. Once you have that, go to the Upgrade screen for the gear you want to modify, click on Trait, and you’ll be able to transfer the trait from the Extract to your chosen item.
Remember The Extract has to match the exact type of gear. For instance, if you want to add Heavy Attack to a Karnix’ Netherbow, you’ll need a Heavy Attack trait Extract specifically from a Netherbow. You can make your own Extracts from your gear using Trait Extraction Stones. This lets you convert an untradable item into a tradable Extract. So, if you come across a valuable trait on gear you don’t need, like if you already have enough Heavy Attack, you can sell the Extract on the Auction House to earn some Lucent.
You can also use Trait Unlockstones to pick the specific trait you want to add. This can often be a more affordable option than buying a matching Extract from the auction house. However, Trait Unlockstones are rare, so it’s important to use them wisely. One of the best ways to find Trait Unlockstones is by hunting for Mystic Portals and Mystic Globes, as they can sometimes drop them. You can also earn Unlockstones as an alternative reward from the Weekly Mission tab if you prefer not to choose a gear reward.
What is Trait Conversion
Trait Conversion is essentially a gamble where you try to change the trait on a piece of gear. For example, if you want to change the trait on these boots from Ranged Evasion to something else, you can spend 20 Trait Conversion Stones for a chance to get a new trait. You can see the percentage chances for these rolls on the right side of the screen.
Gear progression in Throne And Liberty
Gear progression in Throne And Liberty is a bit different from other MMOs. Instead of jumping straight into un-traited Purple gear when you get a good drop for your build, it’s more beneficial to fully trait a piece of Blue gear first and then upgrade it to Purple. Not only is it cheaper to trait a Blue item compared to a Purple one, but you’ll also get a Blessing chance on the Purple item based on the traits you’ve transferred. This means you could end up with a Purple item that has Blue traits.
Also when you transfer a Blue trait to a Purple item, you receive a 10% Blessing chance. Once this reaches 100%, you have a guaranteed 100% chance of fully upgrading a Purple trait with the Blue trait. In some instances, this can even be cheaper than buying a Purple Extract. This strategy is especially helpful if you obtain Blue drops while farming that match the traits you want for your gear upgrade.
