Saving Josée in Code Vein 2 is an important part of the story if you want to unlock the secret ending. The quest has lots of battles, including Alisandro Gobo and the final boss, Hero Josée. Defeating Hero Josée completes the timeline shift and saves her. As there will be a lot of battles, come prepared with your best gear and medkits. In this guide, we will show you how to save Josée and defeat the Hero Josée in Code Vein 2.

How to Start Josée’s Faded Bond

During the main story of Code Vein 2, you will meet Josée. After finishing her story, you will unlock Josee’s Faded Bond. It is an important quest that will let you change the past, and you can unlock the secret ending along with the rewards.

    How to Find Lise’s Hairpin

First, restore the Sanatorium in the Undead Forest. To do that, complete Holly’s Faded Bond. At the end of Holly’s quest, you will find Lisa’s hairpin inside the Sanatorium, just near the entrance. Once you have the hairpin, return to Josee’s Faded Bond and activate it.

How to get the Shelter Key

After activating the faded bond, you will be sent to the past. Go to the Ju’s Outpost, and you will be attacked. After the cutscene, you need to find Lee. Go to the hill overlooking the Clock Tower Mistle. From there, move southeast towards the big tower. You will find a girl lying on the ground. Talk to her, and she will give the Shelter Key.

Now, use the key to enter the shelter and find Lee. Next, open your map and travel to 2192 – The Heroes’ Era 2. This will start a cutscene. After the cutscene, speak with Lou at the mistle. Then talk to Joseph in her room at the outpost. Once this is done, Josée will be your companion.

    The Final Boss: Hero Josée

Travel to Undead Forest and go to Bureau’s Castle and defeat Alisandro Gobo. In this fight, you will be facing both Gobbo and Oskar at the same time. One uses a Bayonet, while the other fights with a Two-Handed Sword. They share a single health bar, so you don’t need to defeat them separately.

You can focus your attacks on one of them, and damage dealt to either will count toward ending the fight. After defeating Gobo, return to Josee’s outpost and fight the final boss Hero Josée. Defeating Hero Josée will complete Josée’s questline and the timeline shift decision.

How to Defeat the Hero Josée

Josee fights using her sword and with a few stomp attacks. Her moveset is easy to read once you know it. Charge Ground Stab is a move where Josee moves toward you with her sword. She comes forward and ends the attack by stabbing the ground. During the second part of this move, she tracks your position. To avoid it, dodge toward her as she jumps, which puts you safely behind or beside her and out of range of the stab.

    Phase 1

Ground Burst happens when Josee pauses and charges her sword until it glows bright gold. She then slams it into the ground, creating one large danger zone beneath her and many smaller ones around her. If you are in these areas, your character will lose balance, leaving you open to attacks. As soon as you see the sword glowing, back away and change position to stay safe.

Next are Josee’s swing attacks. The Single Swing and Double Swing are almost the same. Both of these are easy to deal just dodge toward Josee, and you will avoid the attack. The Single Swing also has a faster version where Josee charges her sword and then slashes quickly.

In the Stomp and Swing combo, Josee starts by stomping once with her left foot, then spins and swings her sword twice from side to side. Circle around her and stay close while she is attacking, which lets you deal damage to her once the combo ends, or simply back off and create some distance to avoid the attack.

    Phase 2

In Phase 2, Josee keeps many of the same attacks from Phase 1, but they hit harder. In the Ground Burst, instead of several small danger zones, a single large target appears under you. You will need to keep moving constantly, because getting caught in it will deal the Bind status, which can be unsafe for you.

In the Stomp and Swing attack, it starts the same way as before, but in Phase 2, Josee adds one extra swing at the end of the combo. Don’t counter too early, and wait until the full combo finishes before attacking back.

In Phase 2, Josee also adds new orb-based attacks. The first one is Golden Orbs. Josee kneels down and releases several glowing golden orbs from her back. These orbs slowly spread out and fall toward the ground. When they hit something, they start blinking and then explode. The best way to deal with this attack is to avoid the orbs as they spawn and move toward the centre of the arena, where it’s easier to stay out of the explosions.

The second new move is Quick Orbs. Josee fires three small orbs from her hand, either in a horizontal line or a vertical line. When these orbs hit the ground, they create a net-like area. Standing in these areas can deal the Bind status, which can leave you stuck. To stay safe, simply your position, either moving closer to Josee or backing away, to step out of the targeted area before the orbs activate.

How to Prepare to Defeat Hero Josée

It is advised to bring Noah as your partner for this fight. While Lou provides helpful buffs, Noah’s serious damage output helps end the battle much faster. Using ranged attacks is good. However, if you want to fight up close, weapons like Twin Blades, a Katana, or a One-Handed Sword, as long as you keep moving and time your dodges carefully.
