How to Play Gestral Race in Expedition 33

The Gestral Race is one of the most challenges that you’ll need to complete in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. If you want a new cosmetic or want 100% completion, mastering this race is worth the effort. Here’s everything you need to know to start the race, navigate the course, and get the Gold rank.

How To Start the Gestral Race

To start the Gestral Race in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, head over to Gestral Beach and talk to the Gestral there. Just walk up and press the interaction button. After a brief conversation, choose the “Let’s Race” option. You’ll be taken to the starting line, there’ll be a quick countdown, and once you see “GO!”, the race starts.

How To Play the Gestral Race

The Gestral Race may look simple at first, but it can be a bit tricky. Once the race starts, you’ll see a timer appear at the top of the screen. Just start running forward and jump over any obstacles in your way. The platforming can feel a little tough, but the route is pretty clear.

Eventually, you’ll come to some rotating platforms that move against you. This part is all about timing and speed, so make sure you keep holding the sprint button the whole time. After that, climb up the wall on the right, make one last jump, and you’ll reach the finish line.

Just before the finish line, you’ll see two climbable walls one on the left and one on the right. Make sure to go for the wall on the right. It’s shorter and lines up perfectly with the platform where the finish line is. If you try climbing the left wall instead, you’ll waste time since it’s much taller, and that can mess up your run.

Your goal is to finish as fast as you can, and depending on your time, you’ll earn a Bronze, Silver, or Gold rank. Here are the times to aim for:

  • Bronze: 45 seconds
  • Silver: 41 seconds
  • Gold: 38 seconds

If you manage to hit the Gold time, you’ll unlock the Verso II swimsuit, along with some upgrade tints and Chroma from all three ranks. Earning Gold also gives you the “Gestral Games” trophy/achievement. If you earn the Bronze medal, you’ll get a Resplendent Chroma Catalyst, and with the Silver medal, you’ll receive a Grandiose Chroma Catalyst. Both of these are materials you can use to upgrade your weapons.
