How to Open the Warden Vault in Dragon Age: the Veilguard

Dragon Age: the Veilguard has many mysteries and puzzles you will discover as you explore the various areas in the game. While exploring, you will find many paths locked, which only unlock after completing the story to a certain point or exploring additional regions. You will come across the ‘Open the Warden Vault’ quest in Rivain Coast, populated with Antaam. You need to save the dragon to unlock the locked areas on the Rivain Coast. Once you have done that, the map will be open for exploration. Once you have found the Warden Vault quest, you must solve three puzzles to open two locked doors to get to the treasure hoard. Here is how you can go about doing that.

How to Start the Open the Warden Vault Quest

You can unlock the quest in a few ways, but ensure you have completed the game to the point where all locked paths are open for exploration. Ensure the dragon is saved on the Rivain Coast as the first step.

Once that’s done and the area is open, you can stumble by the lever, which opens an underway path that starts the quest, or follow our steps below to get there.

Finding the ‘Open the Warden’ Vault Quest

To start the quest, spawn at the fast travel point highlighted above and reach the point of interest.

Some paths are immediately visible after spawning at the fast travel point – the large iron gate and the path on the right. The quickest way to get to the quest is through the large iron gate. Go through the large iron gate and past the first room. In the second room, look on the right; you will see a pathway leading down. Go down the path, break the blistering drakestone crystals using Taash’s ability, and the room ahead will unlock the ‘Open the Warden Vault’ Quest.

However, many players may not have unlocked the large iron gate and may need to take a detour.

After spawning at the fast travel point, take the path on the right through the archway. Keep following the archway and go above the stairs. Climb the wooden platform and enter the room at the end of the path.

In the room, pull the lever and drop down to the next room. You will find yourself in a large room with pillars and a statue at the end. Facing the statue, if you look to your right, there is a pathway going down. Go down the path, break the blistering drakestone crystals using Taash’s ability, and the room ahead will unlock the ‘Open the Warden Vault’ Quest.

Warden Vault Lock 1 Puzzle – Burn Flame in Correct Order

Once the quest is active, retrace your path to where you pulled the lever. There is a locked room with three extinguished flames and a locked door with a treasure chest inside.

Finding the first puzzle is quite simple; there are multiple ways to get there. If you follow the above path, leave the room and jump down. Look ahead, and you will notice a cart in the archway and wooden crates inside the room. Break everything, and it will reveal the flame puzzle.

To solve the puzzle, you need to ignite the flames in the correct order. Here’s how to solve the puzzle.

Warden Vault Lock 1 Puzzle - Burn Flame in Correct Order
  1. Ignite the flame on the Left First.
  2. Igniter the flame on the Right Second.
  3. Ignite the flame on the Center Last.

Head back to the locked room, and you will notice the lever in front of the room glowing, and the flames will be lit. Pull the lever to open the room and collect the loot. In the room, another lever on the eagle statue can be pulled to unlock the first lock for the Warden Vault.

Warden Vault Lock 2 Puzzle – Find Ghosts to Revel New Room

The second part of the puzzle requires you to find three skeletons, revealing a new room where you can unlock a second lock.

To start, take the first lock room as your starting point and jump into the big room with the statue at the end. Head towards the statue and go into the room on the right. At the end of the path is a skeleton with a sword stuck in it. Interact with the skeleton.

Retrace your path and climb the ladder to the front of locked room 1. Head out of the room, go left, and you will see the second skeleton from the stairs on the right.

Go down the stairs and follow the path through the archway, retracing the steps back to the fast travel point. You will find the skeleton right next to the first archway from the fast-travel point.

Go back to where you found the first skeleton. Before heading into the room, you will see a ghost next to the statue. Go near it, and a door will appear. Inside the room, pull the lever to open the second lock.

Warden Vault Lock 3 Puzzle – Find and Deliver the Wisp

The third and final lock requires you to go through many steps to find and deliver the wisp. Let’s get on with it.

To start, return to where you found the first skeleton. From that room, a pathway leads out to a clearing with two giant statues. Once you are out of the castle, you will see the objective marker on the right where a hole exists in the building. You must blast the Gaatlok Barrel to open a new path.

From there, head back into the castle and take the first left; you will see blistering drakestone crystals at the end of the path. Melt the crystal and follow the path. The game will tell you a wisp is required.

Head back to the clearing, where you opened a new pathway. Climb the ladder, and on top, you will find the wisp. Go near it, and the wisp will start following you. Return to where you require the wisp.

At the location, the wisp will possess the lying skeleton and pull the lever, which opens the door on the left. Go into the door, and you will find a treasure chest. Loot everything and pull the level in the room to open the third lock for the Warden Vault.

Return to the Warden Vault – Rewards for Quest

If you did not notice it initially, the Warden Vault is where you started the quest. Return to the location, and the vault is unlocked. There are three chests inside with the following items.

  1. 500 XP
  2. Serpent’s Kiss.
  3. Azure Bow for Rook
  4. Trussed Finery Armor for Taash.
