How to Get to Portoga in Dragon Quest 3 Remake

In Dragon Quest 3, one of your early objectives is to reach Portoga. Portoga is a seafaring kingdom, and getting there is important. This is where you will acquire a ship that will allow you to sail across the ocean to new areas. However, the road to Portoga is not straightforward. You need to find the stolen crown of the King of Romaria and the Magic Key to get there. This article will discuss how to get to Portoga in Dragon Quest 3 Remake.

The Stolen Crown of the King of Romaria

When you reach the Romaria Outpost, you will find that the Crown of the King of Romaria has been stolen. You need to find the stolen crown to access the Romaria Outpost.

The Skyfell Tower

The crown of the King of Romaria is stolen by Robbin’ ‘Ood and his gang ‘Oodlums. You will find Robbin’ ‘Ood and his gang of ‘Oodlums at Skyfell Tower. To reach the Skyfell tower, you must head northeast through the mountain pass, then take a right at the top and cross a bridge to reach the land where the tower sits.

Once you arrive, you aim to work your way up to the sixth floor. The tower is filled with monsters like Illerpillars, Funghouls, and Scornets, but they’re all fairly easy to defeat. Go to the second floor to recruit a friendly Bubble Slime. You’ll find it hiding in a small room to the right of the staircase that leads up to the next level.

Defeat Robbin’ Ood

Once Bub is sent off to Monty, you can continue climbing Skyfell Tower to reach the top floor and face Robbin’ Ood. After your first encounter with him, he’ll open a trapdoor that drops you down one level. Climb back up, then head right and jump off the ledge to face him in battle. Robbin’ Ood is vulnerable to fire attacks, while his ‘Oodlums are weak to ice, so use those elemental weaknesses to make the fight easier.

After you defeat him, Robbin’ Ood will give you the stolen crown of the King of Romaria and ask for mercy. Whether you choose to let him go or not is up to you, but you will get the crown regardless. With it in hand, return to Romaria and give it back to the King. At this point, the King will ask you to take over as monarch. If you accept, you’ll earn the Regal Ruler achievement. However, you won’t be able to continue your adventure as the ruler, so you’ll need to find the former King at the Monster Arena and ask him to resume his role.

The Magic Key Location

Once you have the Stolen Crown of the King of Romaria, you’ll need the Magic Key to unlock the door to the passage that leads to Portoga.

The Pyramid

The Magic Key can be found inside the Pyramid. While you’re in Asham, talking to the locals, you’ll get a hint about the city of Ibis. From there, head southwest toward a desert, then travel south until you reach an oasis. Ibis is nearby, and chatting with the people there will provide details about the Pyramid’s location. Once you have that information, head north to find the Pyramid, though it may take some time. Be careful when you arrive, as the Pyramid is full of traps.

Solve the Puzzle

Make your way carefully through the Pyramid’s floors to find the stairs leading up. The Magic Key is on the third floor, but before you can get it, you’ll need to solve a simple puzzle. All you have to do is press two buttons on the same floor – one in the bottom right corner and the other in the bottom left. This will unlock the boss chamber. Defeat the boss inside to access the chest, where you’ll find the Magic Key.
