If you are looking to unlock the brand-new Claw weapon in V Rising 1.1, you’ll have to defeat a strong V Blood boss by the name of Frostmaw the Mountain Terror. In this guide, we will guide you through where he can be found, how to prepare, and the best way to defeat him.
Frostmaw the Mountain Terror Location
Frostmaw the Mountain Terror is a level 53 boss whom you can find wandering on the main road in Hallowed Mountains. Although Frostmaw is a wandering boss, his patrol path is actually quite short. You can simply circle around the area and you’ll be able to see him within a short while. To save you some effort, you can track him down on your V Blood screen and go directly to him.
How to Beat Frostmaw the Mountain Terror
Frostmaw can be much simpler if you play the terrain. Try to choose a location with big rocks or obstructions, and just keep going around them while you’re fighting. This makes it more difficult for him to hit you. Use two kinds of ranged spells, such as Chaos Volley and either a Blood or Unholy projectile on him while staying safely out of range.
Preparation for the Battle
A Merciless Iron Spear is a good choice when fighting Frostmaw. As he’s a Creature, you get additional damage, and the spear allows you to maintain a little more distance than most melee weapons.
For your blood type, choose Scholar. It raises your spell power, which is ideal for spells at a distance.
As for spells, be sure to bring Chaos Volley (and other projectile spells) for good damage. It’s also wise to have a shield spell such as Ward of the Damned it can block some of Frostmaw’s attacks entirely and even deal some damage by calling in minions.
For your dash ability, we would suggest Veil of Chaos. The majority of dash spells are fairly similar to one another, but this one is great because you get to use it twice, which makes it ideal for when you need to escape quickly.
Defeating Frostmaw the Mountain Terror
In fighting Frostmaw’s wide melee attacks, having a spear is a good idea. It allows you to deal a lot of damage while having a little more space from him. Gear Blood Rite, as it not only allows you to block some of his attacks but also heals you a bit when done at the right time. To add damage, take Chaos Volley into combat. And don’t forget to unleash your Heart Strike ultimate whenever it’s possible.
When Frostmaw begins using his ice laser attack, immediately hit him with Chaos Volley to get some early damage. Prepare to jump out of the way to avoid his triple frost bolt attack. After you jump out of any freezing effect, attempt to counterattack his next action. When he casts a frost wave AoE attack, dodge it and shoot off another Chaos Volley if possible. Keep an eye out for the Ice Storm, too. Stay off the frozen ground to avoid getting frozen solid. And when he fires his 180-degree ice beam, either sprint out of its path or use a charged Blood Rite to safely avoid it.
When Frostmaw uses his ice blast ground attack, you’ll have to sprint away or use Blood Rite to dodge the ice beam safely. After his health depletes, it’s time to close in and utilize your Thousand Spears skill for massive damage. Keep utilizing Chaos Volley and your spear skills as much as possible. Use your Ultimate skill carefully, it’s good for taking heavy damage and healing yourself simultaneously. Throughout the fight, focus on dodging his frost attacks using Blood Rite and try to keep a good distance to stay safe.
Frostmaw the Mountain Terror Rewards
Defeating Frostmaw the Mountain Terror has some rewards. You’ll unlock a Tier 3 Frost Spell Point first, which allows you to select between two mighty ultimate Frost spells: Arctic Leap and Ice Block. Arctic Leap is ideal for dishing out massive AoE damage, while Ice Block is more of a support spell that can aid you in getting out of difficult situations.
You will also receive the recipe for Thick Hide, an important material utilized in making higher-level armor. In addition, you’ll get the Mountain Bag recipe, allowing you +13 inventory slots, +300 silver coin carry immunity, and +52 max health, a nice upgrade for your journeys. Finally, you’ll get Claws and the Elixir of the Beast.
