Getting a Scavenger Mount turns your long, deadly treks across the Valley of Mines into fast, safe rides, but you don’t just obtain it through a main quest or side quest, instead you have to pursue an NPC to get a mount. To earn your own Scavenger you must find and speak to an NPC Cohsel west of the Old Camp. This guide shows exactly where to find Cohsel, how to start the side quest to get the mount, what materials you are going to need and where to find them.
Cohsel Location
Head to the marked location shown in the above map image which is west to the Old Camp and look for a named NPC Cohsel, his house is located on a hillside and as you’ve noticed he has 2 pets – a wolf and a scavenger.
Speak with Cohsel and exhaust his dialog options and ask him about his pet scavenger, he’s going to deny your request to own one. Even after getting denied, keep pursuing him about the scavenger and he’ll accept your request to own a scavenger but you’re going to need some materials – Kingstide plant x5 to create a whistle, leather strips and wolf skin x3 to craft a saddle for the mount.
Obtaining Kingstide Plant
To get to the Kingstide, get to the tavern in the New Camp and dive underwater around the tavern and scout for the plant shown in the above second image which grows on the lakebed. You need to collect 5 Kingstide plant and submit them to Cohsel.
Obtaining Wolf Skin
One way to obtain wolf skin is to kill wolves and skin them but you’re going to need hunting skills for that, alternatively you can buy wolf skin from traders like Mordrag, Cavalorn and will cost 5 ore each.
Mordrag Location
You can find Mordrag at the south side of the Old Camp quite opposite to the south gate sitting on a bench. You can buy the wolf skin from him but he only has 1 wolf skin and for the remaining 2 wolf skins, you need to find an NPC Cavalorn who is located nearby Cohsel’s location.
Cavalorn Location
Navigate to the above location shown on the map and you’ll find Cavalorn at a settlement. Speak with him and you can buy the remaining 2 wolf skins from him, you can also find leather strips on the table inside his hut, just make sure to collect them in his absence if you don’t have the leather strips from your past adventures or you can also buy them from other traders.
Scavenger Mount
After you’ve gathered the materials, go back to Cohsel and hand over the materials to him and he’ll tell you to come back the next day. You can either skip time or come back later the next day. Talk to Cohsel about the mount the next day and he will give you Scavenger Whistle, equip it on your quick menu and use it, your mount will come to you when called through the whistle.
