Looting Gomez’s chest early is the fastest way to get Ancient Ore Armor and completely change the game’s difficulty. The armor is hidden inside a chest in Gomez’s private chamber in the Old Camp castle. Obtaining it requires either pickpocketing Gomez for his key, lockpicking the chest yourself or confronting him while avoiding major consequences, but the payoff is the best armor you can get in the whole game. This guide explains the method to reach Gomez’s room, how to get his key and the best time to find Gomez alone in the castle.
Eliminating the Guard
First things first, there’s a guard on the first floor of the castle near Gomez’s room. You need to eliminate him before confronting Gomez so that the guard won’t be interfering. Head above through the stairs on the left from the castle’s entrance and you’ll find the guard on the first floor, since the guard is nameless, you can kill him and it won’t have any consequences.
Confronting Gomez
Around 8:00 – 8:30am in the morning, Gomez returns to his private quarters and since there’s no one on the first floor you can confront Gomez and you have to defeat him to collect the keys to his quarters.
After you’ve defeated Gomez, you can loot him while he’s down and collect valuable loot like his sword which is the most powerful sword in the game, keys to his private quarters, an amulet, the ring of greater invincibility and ore nuggets.
Alternatively, if you have pickpocket skills then you can try to steal his loot. And you can learn pickpocketing skills from a bandit in the New Camp.
Accessing Gomez’s Private Quarters
Unlock the door to his private quarters using the keys and there are 2 chests inside his quarters that you can loot.
Ancient Ore Armor & Amulet of Flames
One of the chests contains the Ancient Ore Armor and the other chest contains the Amulet of Flames along with other loot.
You can equip the Ancient Ore Armor, Amulet of Might and Ring of Greater Invincibility to increase your stats by a great deal in the early game. This will get you ready for your upcoming adventures against mighty foes. And once you have enough strength which is ~98 then you can wield Gomez’s sword which deals 110 edge damage.
