General Lothaire will be one of your two bosses for Valor Mortis, with your second encounter against him occurring at the end of Chapter 2. This may prove difficult for you if you have not figured out how to counter his attacks. In this guide, we’ll cover where to find General Lothaire, the best skills and items to prepare, and how to defeat him in both phases of the fight.
General Lothaire Location and Preparation

Once you finish Chapter 2, you will meet General Lothaire once more in Valor Mortis. The boss arena is located on the cliff near the stone quarry. In order to access the boss arena, you need to clear the enemies from the stone quarry so that you can access the elevator.
It is recommended to tackle this boss after reaching level 8 and over, as you will own extra skill points to spare. Placing these extra points under Endurance, Parrying, and Blocking will help you better with this fight. It is also recommended to collect at least one extra Empty Ferrofluid Flask upgrade, and you will find one near The Climb Lantern.
Also, General Lothaire is weak to fire damage, so fire bullets and hand grenades will work here. You could also carry items that will enhance the burn status effect, like Flaming Whetstone and Nephtoglobin Vials. When it comes to Amber allocation, pick any that helps restore HP and increase damage.
How To Beat General Lothaire

When starting the fight, it is best to keep a distance between yourself and the boss to prevent yourself from engaging in melee fighting. Make sure to observe how he performs his red jumping attack and immediately run away once you see him doing that. Once the boss starts to land on the ground, make sure to dash away, since just running may not allow you to avoid his attack.
The first thing that you must do when you start the fight is to attack all of his weak points. This will add up to his posture damage, making it easier to knock him off balance later on. While attacking him, make sure to observe his ranged attacks because there is no need for you to dodge them with your stamina since you only need to move side to side.
As the boss is approaching you, get ready for the close battle. Notice the color of his attacks. When he performs a red attack, evade it since these types of attacks cannot be blocked or parried. All of his other attacks you need to block to minimize the damage. After defending yourself, move away and look for an opportunity to attack again.
You will repeat this tactic until you destroy all his weaknesses. Then you will be able to attack him to do some additional damage. If you feel confident in close-range fighting, then you should utilize an opening after he does a jump attack and attack him three times. You should leave after that since he can easily spin around and slash you from behind. Thus, you will receive unnecessary damage. If you follow this tactic and watch out for his attacks, you will not sustain any damage during the first part of the battle.
Phase 2

During this stage, the boss will begin to summon small enemies to the arena, and here is where hand grenades would be helpful. Immediately after these enemies arrive, go attack them before they become a threat to you.
It would be a good idea to utilize the boss’s attacks against him because he can hurt himself by killing his summoned enemies. Therefore, when three enemies show up, try to eliminate two of them and let the last one vanish by itself. In case the boss kills them first, you won’t have to bother.
Be aware of your location in the arena, as the area near its edges is burning, and you will be hurt as soon as you step closer to them. Always try to stay in the middle of the arena and be attentive to your surroundings. After you kill off all the enemies, pay your attention to the weaknesses of the boss and destroy them. With enough persistence, you can quickly defeat General Lothaire and move on with the story in Valor Mortis.
