In Hollow Knight: Silksong, the Silkspear is one of the most useful abilities you’ll unlock early on. It not only lets you attack enemies from a distance by throwing a spear, but it also helps you clear away cobwebs that block your path, opening up new areas to explore. Since it uses your silk charge, you’ll need to manage it carefully, especially when you know cobwebs are ahead. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to find and unlock the Silkspear ability.
Silkspear Ability in Hollow Knight Silksong

Once you unlock the Silkspear skill, you can start using it right away. On controllers, press RB or R1, and if you’re on a keyboard, just hit R while the skill is equipped. This move lets you hurl a spear at enemies or even tear through cobwebs blocking your path. The catch is that it uses up some of your silk charge, so you’ll have to keep an eye on that. Make sure you’ve got enough stored up by the time you reach any cobwebs; otherwise, you won’t be able to break through.

After passing Shakra, you’ll come to an opening. On the right side is the Bell Beast boss, but you’d have to cut through cobwebs to reach him, so skip that for now and go left instead.

Along the way, you’ll run into groups of humanoid enemies. You can sneak past most of them if you like, but you’ll need to take down the one perched above that spits acid at you. Jump up through the platforms until you reach and defeat it. Once it’s gone, pull the lever on the platform to lift yourself upward.

At the top, head to the right and deal with a few more enemies, keeping an eye out for pressure traps on the floor that can spring if you step in the wrong spot. From there, jump up and move left through the area until you find an idol. Interact with it, and you’ll unlock the Silkspear ability.
