Fix Battlefield 6: An Unknown Error Occurred

If you’re trying to jump into Battlefield 6 but keep seeing the “Unknown Error” message, you’re not alone. This is a common issue that can pop up on PC or PS5, often after waiting a couple of minutes to join a match. The good news is, it’s usually easy to fix; you just need to close the game properly and check your game files. Here’s a step-by-step guide to get you back in the fight.

Battlefield 6: How to Fix the “Unknown Error” Issue

If you keep getting the “Unknown Error” message in Battlefield 6 (especially after waiting a couple of minutes to join a game), don’t worry, it’s usually a quick fix. Here’s how to sort it out, whether you’re on Steam, EA App, or PS5.

1. Close the Game Completely

Sometimes, Battlefield 6 or its anti-cheat system stays running in the background, which can cause this error. For Windows, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Right-click the Start Menu and open Task Manager.
  2. Look for anything related to Battlefield 6 (like the game’s .exe file) or EA Anti-Cheat.
  3. Right-click each one and choose End Task.

Make sure everything Battlefield-related is closed before moving to the next step.

2. Repair the Game Files

Corrupted or missing game files are the most common cause of this error. The fix is to verify or repair them. On Steam, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Open your Steam Library.
  2. Right-click Battlefield 6 and select Properties.
  3. Go to the Installed Files tab.
  4. Click Verify Integrity of Game Files.

Steam will check every file and replace any that are broken or missing. This process can take 5–10 minutes. On the EA App:

  1. Go to your Library.
  2. Find Battlefield 6 and click Manage.
  3. Select Repair.

The EA App will fix any corrupted files and download missing updates.

3. For PS5 Players

If you’re on PlayStation 5 and get this error, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
  3. Restart your console and try launching the game again.

4. Launch the Game Again

Once the repair or verification finishes (and any updates are installed), launch Battlefield 6. In most cases, the “Unknown Error” won’t appear anymore.
