Fields of Light is a story-rich quest in Tainted Grail where you defend Cuanacht’s farmlands from creeping Wyrdness. The players can help Brother Fabius by setting up Wyrdlanterns in several significant fields, battling eerie threats like Strawchildren, and discovering a tragic turn in how all this relates to the region’s deeper disorder.
How to Start the Quest
You commence the quest in Cuanacht, by visiting Red Priests’ Quarters. Thereinside, you will talk to Brother Fabius, who warmly compliments you for the act of reigniting the Menhir and thanks you for considering taking further steps to assist the poor people of Cuanacht.
The fields, he explains, are dying with the encroaching Wyrdness; if crops fail, the townspeople might starve and grow discontented. Fabius wants to appear more strongly about the fact and show that the priests truly care for the people’s wellbeing.
Confronting the Catch
When prompted, directly ask Fabius “What’s the catch?”
He will confess that Legate Denholm wouldn’t be pleased with this effort. Denholm prefers the Wyrdness kept close to speed up travel to Kamelot, hinting at political tensions.
Despite this, Fabius insists this mission is vital for the people of Cuanacht and urges you to accept it as a personal favor to him.
Objective: Acquire and Place Wyrdlanterns
Your first task is to acquire Wyrdlanterns and position them around key farmlands to push back the Wyrdness.
Priority Farmlands:
- Fields of Rhys and Eda – Known for having one of the largest crop yields in Cuanacht.
- Lands of the brothers Rob and Gil – They’re known to be a bit stubborn, but their fields are vital to the town’s food supply.
Fabius instructs you to position the lanterns carefully to ensure maximum protection of these areas.
Step 1: Get the Lanterns
- Head to The Crooked Trails.
- Find Alwyn, the local shopkeeper.
- Purchase the Wyrdlanterns from him.
Step 2: Place the Lanterns
Return to the specified farmlands and begin placing or hanging the lanterns in their designated spots.
Be cautious of Strawchildren—small, animated scarecrow-like creatures that may attack you while placing the lanterns.
Step 3: Report Back
Once the lanterns are placed and the farmlands are secured, return to Brother Fabius at the Red Priests’ Quarters.
However, upon arrival, you will find Fabius dead under mysterious circumstances.
Quest Completion
After discovering Fabius’s body, collect your reward from his quarters. The Fields of Light quest is now complete.
