Expedition 33 – How To Defeat Chromatic Orphelin

In Act 1 of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Yellow Harvest is an optional area worth exploring. It offers loot, Expedition Journals, and some tough battles, including with Chromatic Orphelins. These three Chromatic Nevrons are formidable opponents, using deadly attack combos that lower your max HP with each hit. Here’s how to take them down.

How to Find the Chromatic Orphelins

You’ll be able to access Yellow Harvest once Esquie joins your party. From Gestral Village, head west on the Continent Map and have Esquie smash through the blue stones blocking the way. The main route through Yellow Harvest takes you up a towering pillar using grappling hooks, eventually leading you past the final flag of Expedition 58. Just beyond that flag, you’ll enter a meadow where you’ll face off against Glaise, the main boss of this area.

After defeating Glaise, you can either leave through the exit leading back to the Continent Map and the Lost Woods—or stick around for the real challenge. Instead of heading out, climb the rocks to the right. At the top, jump down into the chasm and follow the tunnel into a cave. There, you’ll discover the Chromatic Orphelins gathered around a fire, waiting for a fight.

How to Beat the Chromatic Orphelins

The Chromatic Orphelins are all on equal footing—there’s no leader or support unit among them, and they don’t really work together in any special way. Just pick one, take it down fast, then move on to the next.

Blight is the Real Threat

While their combo attacks can hurt, the real threat comes from the Blight stacks they inflict. Each stack lowers a character’s max HP by 10%, and once someone hits ten stacks, they’ll be stuck at just 1 HP. Even worse, Healing Tints won’t do much when your max health is drained like that.

It helps to have characters like Verso who can heal themselves—this keeps Lune free to unload powerful Earth spells for damage. If Lune does need to switch to healing, make sure the rest of your squad stays focused on taking out one target at a time. The quicker you drop them from three to two, and then to one, the fewer Blight stacks your team will have to deal with.

Note: If you’re tackling this fight in Act 2, you might have access to Luminas like Energizing Revive and Powerful Revive—these can make things a lot smoother. If any party members go down from too much Blight, you’ll be able to bring them back with some helpful buffs in the mix.

Best Strategy and Team Setup

Removing status effects is absolutely key in this fight. Without clearing the Blight stacks inflicted by the Nevrons, healing becomes useless—so Lune and her Healing Light skill are must-haves here.

Build a Balanced Team

Unfortunately, Earth-elemental weapons are pretty rare this early in the game. You might only have one or two, like the Gaulteram sword. Both Gustave and Verso can equip swords and heal themselves, making them solid choices. If you’ve already recruited Verso, definitely bring him; otherwise, Gustave is a great backup.

For the final party slot, it depends on your playstyle. Maelle is a strong pick thanks to her high damage output and ability to inflict Burn, helping you take down the Orphelins one at a time. On the other hand, Sciel adds another healing option, which can be valuable for clearing Blight stacks.

Note:  The Chromatic Orphelins are especially vulnerable to Earth damage, which makes Earth-based spells like Crustal Crush super effective when Lune isn’t busy healing.
