Escaping the Prison in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Getting captured is a classic Metal Gear moment, and in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Snake finds himself locked in Groznyj Grad with no hints on escaping. Luckily, the game offers multiple creative ways to break free, from clever use of items to secret codes and hidden mini-games. This guide covers all the methods to escape the prison and continue your mission safely.

How to Escape the Prison

In Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Snake is captured in Groznyj Grad with no hints. Here are all three methods.

Method 1: Use the Fake Death Pill

Another option relies on the Fake Death Pill that The Boss secretly slipped into Snake’s body during an earlier cutscene. Go into the Cure menu, extract the Transmitter and the pill using the Fork, and then swallow the pill. Snake will collapse, convincing the guard that he’s dead. Once the door is opened, use the Revival Pill to wake up and make your getaway.

Method 2: Make Snake Sick

One trick is to deliberately make Snake throw up. Open the Cure menu as if you’re about to treat an injury, then spin Snake around in circles for about half a minute. When you close the menu, he’ll lose his balance and vomit. The commotion brings the guard inside, and that’s your moment to ambush him with CQC and step out of the cell.

If you create a save file during this sequence and reload, you’ll also unlock Guy Savage, a hidden hack-and-slash mini-game that makes its return in Delta.

Method 3: Unlock with a Codec Frequency

One way to escape is by using a hidden codec frequency that unlocks the cell door. During an earlier cutscene, pressing R1/RB briefly reveals The Sorrow holding a sign with the number 144.75. Entering this code into the radio will cause the lock to disengage, letting Snake walk out without a fight.

The frequency can also be discovered by provoking the guard at mealtime. Each time he delivers food, throw it back at him until a secret cutscene begins. When prompted, switch to first-person view and you’ll notice 144.75 written on the back of a photograph, giving you the same escape option.

What Happens After Escaping

Breaking out of the cell is only the start. Once free, Snake has to move through Groznyj Grad without any of his usual gear. You won’t recover your equipment until you meet up with EVA again, so it’s best to avoid open conflict and rely on stealth until then. This stretch is one of the tougher infiltration sequences in the game, so take your time and move carefully.
