In Baldur’s Gate 3, solving the Stained Glass Puzzle in the Rosymorn Monastery rewards players with the Dawnmaster’s Crest, a valuable item that requires some exploration and strategic puzzle-solving. To get to this challenging puzzle, you will have to navigate the rugged terrain of the Mountain Pass and climb up the exterior of the monastery. Once you are inside the stained glass room, you will have four pedestals, and three weapons that need to be placed on specific pedestals: Rusty Mace, Ceremonial Warhammer, and Ceremonial Battleaxe. The guide will provide you with clues for the whereabouts of these weapons, along with explicit instructions on how to place them, and even give you details on how to acquire the Dawnmaster’s Crest as a prize for solving the puzzle.
How to Solve the Stained Glass Puzzle
The stained glass puzzle room is located in the northernmost section of the Rosymorn Monastery. To get there, you will need to navigate through the Mountain Pass and follow the road leading to the monastery. Be prepared for plenty of climbing and jumping as you and your party work your way through the rugged exterior terrain surrounding the monastery.
- Inside the stained glass room, you will find four windows, each with a stone pedestal positioned in front of them.
- To solve the Dawnmaster puzzle, you will need to find three specific weapons scattered throughout the monastery: the Rusty Mace, Ceremonial Warhammer, and Ceremonial Battleaxe.
- These items are necessary to complete the puzzle, so take your time exploring to locate them. Put each collected weapon on a pedestal corresponding to its category.
- To solve the Stained Glass Puzzle, place the Rusty Mace on the pedestal to the right of the entrance, the Ceremonial Warhammer on the pedestal to the left, and the Ceremonial Battleaxe on the pedestal at the back of the room.
- If you accidentally place a weapon on the wrong pedestal, don’t panic—it will just knock you down and leave you dazed for a moment. Simply pick the weapon up and place it in the correct spot.
Once all the weapons are on their respective pedestals, a secret compartment will open, revealing a pouch with a letter and the Dawnmaster’s Crest. After, you have solved the Stained Glass Puzzle you will earn the Dawnmaster’s Crest in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Dawnmaster Puzzle Solution
Once you have collected the weapons, place each one on its corresponding pedestal. The Longsword is already correctly positioned on the northwest pedestal, as indicated by the glowing blue crystals. For the remaining pedestals, place the Ceremonial Warhammer on the northeast pedestal (Dawnmaster Seed), the Ceremonial Battleaxe on the southwest pedestal (Dawnmaster Vaseid), and the Rusty Mace on the southeast pedestal (Dawnmaster Stockhold). Once everything is correctly placed, the puzzle will be solved.
Fortunately for players, the weapons don’t need to be “ceremonial.” Once you have found and placed the weapons in the correct spots, you will complete the Dawnmaster puzzle and earn the Dawnmaster’s Crest in Baldur’s Gate 3. Below, you will find all the locations for each of the weapons you need to collect.
The Ceremonial Battleaxe
The Ceremonial Battleaxe is located behind a glowing door, guarded by a Guardian of Faith spell, on the same floor as the stained glass room. To reach it, leave the stained glass room and head toward a tree and a broken walkway. Jump across to the other side and continue until you find a glowing door at (95, 47). It’s best to switch to a companion with a high Sleight of Hand skill, like Astarion, to pick the lock, as you’ll need at least a 15 on the roll to succeed.
Inside the room, the Ceremonial Battleaxe is at the feet of the Guardian of Faith spell. There’s a ring on the ground around it, and entering it will trigger a battle. I found that initiating the fight with a ranged attack helped me gain an advantage. Once you defeat the Guardian, you can pick up the Ceremonial Battleaxe and move on to find the next weapon.
The Ceremonial Warhammer
The Ceremonial Warhammer is located in the nest of an Ancient Eagle on the floor above you. To reach it, exit the Guardian’s room by jumping over the debris blocking the door and turning left. A few steps ahead, you’ll find Knotted Roots at (90, 39), interact with them to climb to the top. There, you’ll encounter both the Ancient Eagle and a Giant Eagle, which you’ll need to defeat in order to obtain the Ceremonial Warhammer. Once the eagles are taken care of, you can collect the warhammer and move on to find the final weapon.
Rusty Mace
The Rusty Mace is located two floors below your current position, near a pile of stone debris. To get it, start by heading down the Knotted Roots to the floor below. You’ll find a wooden door behind you—go through it and descend a flight of stone stairs. At the bottom, turn right to find a wooden barricade covering a large hole in the wall; destroy the barricade to proceed. Continue through the opening, climb the stairs to your left, and you’ll find the Rusty Mace on the ground at (91,30). Once you’ve collected all three weapons, head back to the stained glass room above you by retracing your steps up the stone staircase and jumping across the break in the path.
Tips
- When placing the weapons on the pedestals, make sure each one is put in the correct spot. If you accidentally place a weapon on the wrong pedestal, don’t panic—it just knocks you down for a moment. Pick it up and try again.
- You don’t need to worry if your weapons aren’t “ceremonial.” Even if you have a regular warhammer, as long as it’s placed correctly, the puzzle will work.
- The puzzle and exploration can sometimes be tricky, especially when dealing with fights or unexpected traps. Save your game often to avoid losing progress if things go wrong.
- Some of the pedestals are marked with glowing symbols or signs that can guide you in placing the correct weapons. Keep an eye out for these visual hints as you move through the stained glass room.
