Upgrading the Jackdaw in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag improves your out in sea battles and lets you defeat high tier ships. There are a lot of upgrades and require lots of resources, getting the right upgrades impacts your performance by a lot. This guide will show exactly what upgrades you should prioritise for your Jackdaw so that you don’t have to worry about losing a battle.
Harbourmaster
First things first, you need to upgrade the Harbourmaster settlement in the Great Inagua to its maximum level to unlock high tier upgrades for your Jackdaw. If I’m not wrong, it should cost you ~10000 Reales to fully upgrade the Harbourmaster to its max level.
Round & Heated Shots
The upgrade that you should prioritise the most is the Round & Heated Shots. This is the most used attack during battles, so upgrading them will increase your damage output.
Mortar Shots
The next upgrade on the priority list is the Mortar Shots. As you know Mortar Shots have a really long range which lets you inflict damage on enemy ships while maintaining distance far away from their line of sight. You can also increase the ammo capacity of the Mortar Shots.
Hull Armor and Ram
Hull Armor is definitely the most important upgrade, it increases the Health of your Jackdaw which means you’ll survive longer during battles. While Ram upgrade increases Jackdaw’s ramming damage.
Unlocking Crew Member Padre
Head to the marked location shown in the above map image in the Punta Guarico region located on the east side of the world map. Speak with Padre and complete his storyline to unlock the Ram Dash. If you use the Ram Dash skill before you ram into an enemy ship, it will increase Jackdaw’s speed and inflict massive damage upon impact. Chain this skill with the Ram upgrade and you’ll inflict huge damage to the enemy ships.
Broadside and Front Cannons
Upgrading Broadside and Front cannons will increase the number of cannon on the ship, the more the merrier so that you can inflict as much damage as possible.
Unlocking Crew Member Lucy
Head to the Salt Key island to start the quest to rescue Lucy. Aboard the enemy ship near the island and rescue Lucy and complete her storyline to unlock the Perfect Brace. With Lucy onboard, timing your Brace just before enemy shots land on the ship will result in a Perfect Brace that lets you block all the incoming damage.
