In Palworld, Crude Oil is a vital resource needed for crafting high-end items like powerful armor and flamethrowers, as well as for creating Plasteel. To gather this essential resource, you must locate Oil Fields, marked by black patches on the map, primarily found on Sakurajima Island and a few other regions.
Best Crude Oil Base Locations
Many of the new items from the content update, such as the best armour in the game and the powerful flamethrower, require Crude Oil. Most importantly, you can’t craft Plasteel without it. On the map, you will see black patches scattered across the north, east, and central areas of the island, marking the locations of Crude Oil fields.

1. Sakurajima (Northwest)
The Sakurajima Northwest region is an excellent choice for setting up your Crude Oil base. It features two Crude Oil deposits positioned far enough apart to accommodate multiple extractors. Situated on higher ground, the area naturally offers better protection against raids. The region’s open layout provides plenty of room to build your base just the way you want. Additionally, it has abundant resources, including Stone, Sulfur, and Coal nodes, which are essential for crafting alongside Crude Oil.
2. Sakurajima (Central)
The central region of Sakurajima Island is an excellent choice for setting up a Crude Oil base. It features two well-separated Crude Oil fields, making it easy to place two extractors and boost your oil production. Additionally, the area offers scattered deposits of stone and coal, along with Treasure Chests that can provide valuable extra resources. Sakurajima’s central region is a highly attractive spot for a Crude Oil farm base because this location contains rich oil reserves and you will find extra goodies.
3. Sakurajima (East 1)
Sakurajima’s eastern region is an ideal location for a Crude Oil base, blending practicality with scenic charm. This spot boasts two Crude Oil fields and is surrounded by Mushroom Trees, offering a steady supply of Mushrooms that can serve as a passive food source for your base. The flat terrain makes base construction effortless, giving you plenty of room to set up Power Generators and additional structures like a Mining Station, transforming your base into a resource-farming hub. Plus, with a cliff providing natural protection on one side, your base is well-defended against most enemy raids.
4. Sakurajima (East 2)
If you are aiming to farm for food as well, this location is perfect. The abundance of Mushroom Trees allows Lumbering Pals to harvest Mushrooms, providing a steady, passive food source for your base. This means you won’t have to set up a farm or manually stock a Feed Box.
5. Dessicated Desert
This location features two Oil Fields surrounded by eight Coal Mines, with plenty of trees scattered throughout the area. The enemies here are less challenging compared to those in Sakurajima, with levels around 40.
6. Mount Obsidian
The far west side of the volcanic region is the ultimate spot for farming Crude Oil. Mount Obsidian offers the perfect setup for maximising your reserves. You can install three Extractors here with ease, and the low Pal activity means fewer interruptions and minimal need for heavy defences. As a bonus, the area is home to Scorching Eggs, which can hatch into powerful fire-type Pals. Just make sure to gear up with heat-resistant armour before venturing near the lava to establish your base.
7. Astral Mountain
The Pristine Snow Field on Astral Mountain is an ideal spot for a Crude Oil base. The icy biome is also rich in Pure Quartz, an essential resource for crafting Circuit Boards to power your generators, which can, in turn, support your Extractors for maximum efficiency. Adding to its appeal, the Pristine Snow Field is conveniently located near a Fast Travel point, making it easy to visit your base frequently. The surrounding frosty landscape is home to Ice Pals, adding a unique touch to the setting. Just be prepared with cold-resistant armour to keep warm while building your base in this chilly environment.
How to Harvest Crude Oil in Palworld
To harvest crude oil in Palworld, you need to place an oil extractor in an oil field. Once set up, it will gradually draw Crude Oil from the ground, as long as it has a nearby power source. You will also need to set up a Large Generator, which requires two electric Pals with an electricity rating of three or higher. To unlock the Crude Oil Extractor, you must reach level 50 and spend two Technology Points. After unlocking it, crafting one will require 250 Pal Metal Ingots and 50 Circuit Boards.
Once you have unlocked the Crude Oil Extractor and gathered the required resources, open the build menu and go to the Production tab. From there, select the Extractor and place it over a Crude Oil node on the ground to begin the construction process.
After the Extractor is built, you’ll need to supply it with power to make it function. A Large Generator is necessary since Pylons won’t provide enough electricity. You will also need electric-type Pals with a tier-three or higher electricity rating to operate the Generator and kickstart your Crude Oil extraction operations.
Start by placing down the Palbox to set up your base. Next, craft a chest to store any materials you need to bring over from your other base. The weight of the materials might slow you down, so consider using the Grappling Gun or respawn and reappear at your Crude Oil base to avoid the slow movement.
Once you have transferred all the materials to your new base, it’s time to begin building. Make sure to have Pals with a Handiwork level 3 to speed up the construction process. And don’t forget to take care of your Pals’ comfort, build their beds, a food box, and a hot spring for relaxation.
