The Ancient Village puzzle in Windrose rewards players who look past the ruins’ weathered stones and read the scene like a map – not with brute force but with observation. This guide breaks down the environmental clues that point to the correct solution to solve the puzzle, so you can skip the trial and error and claim the rewards.
Ancient Village Puzzle Location
You’ll come across the Ancient Village puzzle through your main questline progression – Needle in a Haystack following a sub-quest where you have to search a camp near the ruins. You’d have to solve the puzzle to claim the rewards of the location while also gaining experience. You can identify the puzzle by looking for a large statue with multiple hands.
Solving the Ancient Village Puzzle

If you look around the statue, you’ll notice that there are 3 ancient ruins from which you’ve to collect 3 oil samples ( if i remember it right, it was called oil something and maybe not samples ) that you need to activate the statue.
Obtaining Oil Samples

For the first sample, I’m going through the ruins that are to the right of the statue. This puzzle doesn’t have any sequential order, so it doesn’t really matter which ruins you visit first. Head inside the ruins and quickly turn left, you’ll notice a small room inside which lies an ancient chest. Open it and you’ll get the sample along with a few other items.

Then head to the ruins in the middle and you can find the ancient chest at the center of the ruins.

To get to the third ancient chest, you need to climb up the ruins to be able to navigate inside a room that is blocked.

To head to the top of the ruins, get to the back of the ruins and climb up through the path as shown in the second image, then drop down into the room where you’ll find the third ancient chest.

After you’ve collected all the 3 samples, head back to the statue and interact with it, then you’ll get an option to submit these samples to activate the statue and solve the Ancient Village puzzle.
