Sons of the Forest Best Weapons Locations

In Sons of the Forest, you will come across plenty of weapons, from guns to all sorts of melee and ranged tools that help you take down enemies or hunt animals for survival. Which weapon you use really depends on what suits your playstyle best, but some definitely give you a bigger advantage than others. Most of these weapons are present in certain spots around the map. Below, we will walk you through where you can find some of the best ones to help you build up your arsenal.

1. Bolt-Action Rifle

The bolt-action rifle is one of the best weapons you can use in Sons of the Forest. It gives you a solid mix of power, range, and accuracy. It’s perfect for defending your base and keeping an eye on enemies from far away. You can find the Bolt Action Rifle in the Cultist Cave on the east side of the island, near the bottom of the snowy mountain. Look for an entrance by the edge of a big lake. It will be blocked by some wooden boards, but you can break them using any melee weapon to get inside.

2. Shotgun

One of the most powerful long-range weapons in Sons of the Forest is the shotgun. It hits really hard, especially when you are up close to the enemy. To get the shotgun in Sons of the Forest, head to the buried grave on the northern peninsula. Once you find the grave, just use a shovel to dig it up, and you will get the shotgun.

3. Revolver

With just a few precise shots, the powerful six-shot Revolver can kill even large cannibals and mutants. It hits harder than the regular pistol, but the downside is that it holds fewer bullets. You can find the Revolver on the northeast side of the island. Use your GPS and look for the pulsating green marker in the area.

Head there and you will come across an open clearing with broken golf carts and digging tools. Start digging at that spot. Once you clear the dirt, you will uncover a hatch. Hold E to open it and climb down into the bunker. Inside, go down the hallway, there’s one room at the end and another on the right. The Revolver is on the floor next to a dead worker in the right-hand room.

4. Pistol

You can find the pistol on the survival raft, which appears in the opening cutscene before the camera shows the laptop. A shark circles the raft and might attack. Your GPS will show a marker for the raft’s location, but it will disappear once you collect the GPS tag from the dead operative onboard.

You can find pistol ammo scattered across the map in crates, as well as in enemy camps and abandoned camps. You can also give the pistol to Virginia which is a smart way to boost your camp’s defense. Letting her handle the weapon means you will have extra firepower watching your back.

5. Frag Grenade

The frag grenade is one of the most powerful military weapons you can find in Sons of the Forest. It’s perfect for dealing with groups of enemies or big mutants. Just one grenade can blow them apart, and it’s so intense that it can scare off any nearby cannibals who see the blast.

You can find Frag Grenades in different spots around the Sons of the Forest island. One easy place to get them is on the western side near a river, where you will see a skeleton with a briefcase that holds 2 grenades and 2 C4 bricks.

Another grenade spot is in a bunker on the eastern side of the island. To get inside, you will need a VIP keycard, which can be found in a different bunker on the northern side, but you will first need the maintenance keycard, a rebreather, and an air tank to reach it. Once you enter the eastern bunker, go forward until you reach a bar area with a suitcase, open it to grab 2 more grenades and 2 more C4 bricks.

6. Cross

The Cross is a very situational weapon in Sons of the Forest. It’s made of some kind of unknown material and is mainly useful in the final cave, where you can use it to burn and attack demons without wasting ammo. If you try pointing it at cannibals, nothing will happen. And if you equip it near Virginia, she’ll usually try to keep her distance. You can find the Cross deep inside the caves near the beach crash site.

7. Stun Gun

The Stun Gun is a ranged weapon you can find in Sons of the Forest. It’s located in the Rebreather or Taser Cave on the north side of the island. As you explore the cave, you’ll come across a creepy room full of mutants. Look up you’ll see a dead maintenance worker hanging from the ceiling, and the Stun Gun will be on his belt.

8. Crossbow

The Crossbow is a powerful ranged weapon in Sons of the Forest that fires Crossbow Bolts. You’ll find it in the hydroponics area of the Food and Dining Bunker, right next to a corpse. To get to it, you’ll need at least a maintenance keycard to open the door. A helpful clue you’ll spot some Crossbow Bolts stuck in the wall nearby, which will point you in the right direction.

9. Compound Bow

The Compound Bow is one of the best ranged weapons you can get in Sons of the Forest. It’s a big step up from the Crafted Bow and works with any type of arrow just not Crossbow Bolts. You’ll find the Compound Bow inside Maintenance Bunker B. Look for it near a body in a bathtub. But keep in mind, you’ll need a Shovel to dig out the entrance to the bunker before you can get inside.

10. Firefighter Axe

The Firefighter’s Axe is both a weapon and a tool in Sons of the Forest. It swings slower than the other two axes, but it makes up for that by hitting the hardest making it the most powerful melee weapon you can get. You’ll find the Firefighter’s Axe inside Maintenance Bunker A, which is in the northwest part of the island.

To get in, you’ll first need the Shovel so you can dig up the entrance at the dig site. Once you’re inside, keep going until you spot the axe. It’ll be in an emergency box mounted on the wall between some shelves, right next to a generator.

11. Modern Axe

The Modern Axe is both a weapon and a tool in Sons of the Forest. It’s slower to swing compared to the other two axes, but it still packs a solid punch and gets the job done. You can find the Modern Axe stuck in the chest of a dead man at an abandoned camp on the north side of the island. Keep an eye out for the camp as you explore that area.

12. Slingshot

The Slingshot is a simple ranged weapon in Sons of the Forest that fires small rocks or golf balls as ammo. You’ll find it just outside the entrance to the Shovel Cave. Look for the middle corpse among the three operatives impaled there the Slingshot will be on its belt. It doesn’t hit as hard as other ranged weapons, but it’s a cheap and easy option, especially early on.

13. Pickaxe

The Pickaxe is a tool and weapon you can find in the Solafite Cave in Sons of the Forest. Its main use is to mine solafite deposits, so you can collect solafite ore, which you can upgrade later using the Solafite Upgrader. The Pickaxe swings pretty quickly, and if you land a clean hit, its thrust can stagger enemies. It’s a solid weapon, especially in the early game, but it might have a tough time against bigger enemies later on.

14. Putter

The Putter is a fun little weapon in Sons of the Forest that you can also use to hit golf balls and play golf wherever you like. There are a few places where you can find a Putter. One is inside a bunker lounge in the southeast cave the same place where you can also find the Katana. If you head to the golf course on the northeast side of the island, you’ll find two more Putters: one lying next to a golf cart and another sitting in a sand trap.

15. Guitar

The Guitar is a fun melee weapon you can grab in Sons of the Forest. You’ll find it in a bunker with a cave entrance on the west side of the island. To get to it, you’ll need at least a maintenance keycard. From the room with the 3D printer, take a left and follow the lit hallway until you reach a locked set of double doors.

Use your keycard to open them. Inside, you’ll pass through areas like a gym, spa, and eventually a bar and night club. The Guitar is lying on the bar counter, not far from the blocked entrance to the night club just keep going past the Track Suit and you’ll spot it.

16. Electric Chainsaw

The Electric Chainsaw is a handy tool you can find in Sons of the Forest. It’s located in the Guest Bunker, which you’ll see marked on your GPS as a green circle. To get to it, head past the 3D printer and go down a lit hallway you’ll come to a locked set of double doors that you can open with the Maintenance Keycard.

The chainsaw runs on batteries, but keep in mind that these same batteries are also used to craft Tech Armor. So while it’s great for cutting down enemies or clearing lots of trees, using it too much can burn through your valuable resources.

17. Katana

The Katana is a sleek and super fast melee weapon in Sons of the Forest. While it doesn’t block attacks very well, it more than makes up for it with its speed and power. You can find the Katana at the green point of interest on the southeast side of the island, inside the Residential Bunker. You’ll need a keycard to get in. As you make your way through the cave and the bunker, head to Level 2. In the third room, you’ll see the Katana resting on a traditional holder right in the center.

18. Machete

The Machete is a light and quick weapon in Sons of the Forest. It deals decent damage, doesn’t use up much stamina, and can block a bit too. Because it’s fast and can stagger enemies, it can actually be more useful than the Katana when you’re facing a single opponent. You’ll find the Machete on the northern coastline. Look for a small camp with two black tents it’ll be stabbed into a bedroll near a dead soldier.

19. Stun Baton

The Stun Baton is a melee weapon in Sons of the Forest, inspired by the Barbarian Stun Baton but with a few small differences. You can find it pretty early in the game. Look for a pool of water near the Rope Gun Cave you’ll see the Stun Baton sticking out of a pile of skulls there.
