Ketch Ship Model
Ketch is the starter model for your pirate journey. You can unlock this ship model by progressing the main questline – I Need a Bigger Boat at the beginning of the game. This ship model comes with 3 variants – stock, brethren and blackbeard variant. Out of the three variants, I would choose brethren because it has more hitpoints ( HP ) compared to other variants. Blackbeard variant is for more speed and most damage output but its hitpoints are very low from other 2 variants. And the stock variant is more like a balanced model out of three. Ketch also requires low resources to build it, and low costs when repairing it, which you can find them all on the first biome – Coastal Jungle.
Obtaining Brig and Frigate Ship Designs
Ketch may be the starter kit, but to up your game, you’re going to need to upgrade your ship and these don’t come cheap – design and resources. You can get the ship designs from the Provisioner of Brethren of the Coast – but there’s also a reputation level requirement. For the Brig design, you need a reputation level of 2 and for Frigate, you need a reputation level of 4.
Increasing Reputation
You can increase your reputation with a faction by selling them Insignia. You can find them when you kill enemies, loot and in sea battles. And the best way to maximise your insignia drop, is through sea battles.
Brig Ship Model
Brig is more like an intermediate level model compared to ketch. It needs additional resources to build it and requires you to progress to the next biome after coastal jungle – Foothills, to gather the required resources that can only be found in Foothills biome. This model also has 3 variants and the difference between these variants remains the same as ketch.
Frigate Ship Model
Frigate is currently the highest model you can get so far in the game, and trust me, it’s a beast. But also, building this ship requires lots of resources and tons of them. But if you can build this ship, mount it with upgraded 24-pounders, you’ll be unstoppable. Some resources to build this ship can only be found in the Cursed Swamp biome, so this ship is a late game model. The Brethren variant for this model stacks up 200k hitpoints, basically making you a tank.
How to Build Them?
You can build these ships and manage them through the Wharf, as you’ve done previously with the starter ship model – Ketch.
