Alchemy Guide in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Welcome to the wonderful and sometimes perilous world of alchemy in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2! A very brief guide from beginning to master, it takes you through gathering ingredients and learning recipes all the way up to brewing potent potions and avoiding costly mistakes. Alchemy in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is not just tossing herbs into a pot; it is an immersive and hands-on experience that requires careful attention to detail. Whether you want an easy healing brew or a potion with special characteristics, this will be your comprehensive guide to helping you succeed.

How to do Alchemy

Alchemy is a deep dive – really immersive experience in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. It’s not just throwing things in a pot; it’s actually gathering ingredients and then brewing, grinding, and distilling those yourself. It’s hands-on!

Collecting Materials

So, you’re diving into the world of Alchemy! Your first task is to gather flowers and herbs. Don’t worry about being too picky at first – these ingredients are usually light, so you can carry a bunch. Just remember, fresh is best! If you want top-notch potions, brew them as soon as you pick the ingredients. Otherwise, they’ll spoil quickly.

The good news is you can preserve them by drying them on a Drying Rack. This makes them last much longer, though they’ll be lower quality. The trick is balancing your foraging trips with your brewing sessions. High-quality ingredients make better potions, but you also don’t want to waste time gathering if everything’s going to go bad. It’s all about timing!

Collecting Recipes

When you first start playing, you’ll only know one potion recipe. Don’t worry, you’ll learn a second one pretty quickly, and that one’s actually important because it lets you save your game! After that, you’ll have to find or buy new recipes to expand your potion-making repertoire. You can find them scattered throughout the world, or just pop into an Apothecary and buy them. Once you have a new recipe, use it from your inventory to add it to your recipe book.

Whenever you’re at an Alchemy Bench, you’ll see your recipe book nearby. Just flip to the recipe you want to make. The page on the right has a handy flowchart showing you the steps, and the page on the left has written instructions to guide you.

Brewing Potions

Every Alchemy Bench comes equipped with the essentials: water, wine, oil, and spirits. These are always available on the left side of the bench. You’ll also find some handy tools there:

  • Cauldron & Bellows: This is your main mixing pot. You can lower it or use the bellows to heat things up to a boil.
  • Sandglass: A simple timer. One “Turn” is how long it takes for all the sand to fall to the bottom.
  • Mortar & Pestle: For grinding up ingredients before you add them to the mix.
  • Dish: Just a plate to hold ingredients before you use them.
  • Still: Used to distill your potion after it’s finished in the cauldron.
  • Vial: For bottling your finished potion.

On the right side of the bench, you’ll see a shelf where you can place the ingredients from your inventory. If you have everything you need for a recipe, just follow the instructions. Keep in mind, every potion is different. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach – you’ll need to pay attention to the specific ingredients and steps for each one.

Tips

  • You can usually find a free alchemy bench in most towns.
  • Potions come in different strengths: regular, strong, and weak. A perfect brewing process gets you a strong potion, while a few missteps will result in a weaker one.
  • If you manage to snag the “Alchemy: Secret of Secrets” perk, you can brew exceptional potions that are even more powerful than the strong ones.
  • The “Alchemy: Secret of Matter” perk is fantastic because it gives you an extra potion of the same quality every time you brew. However, it’s an either/or choice with “Alchemy: Secret of Equilibrium,” which lets you make small mistakes without ruining the potion’s quality.
  • Big mistakes, like using the wrong base or ingredients, will just waste your materials. So, be careful!
