Abandoned Mine Gate Puzzle
After you enter the abandoned mine during the “Lost Apprentice” quest, you’ll encounter a puzzle involving a gate that must be raised to progress the mine. However, the winch used to raise the gate is damaged and you need to locate the missing component, retrieve it and reassemble the mechanism so the winch can operate.
Winch Component
The Winch’s missing component can be found beneath the flooded passage. Swim down into the water and search the floor among the debris for the detached part shown in the above image and retrieve it so you can reassemble the winch and operate the gate.
Raising the Gate
Return to the winch, fit the recovered broken piece back into its slot and reassemble the mechanism. Once repaired, operate the winch to lift the submerged gate and you can now dive through the opened passage below the gate to continue deeper into the mine.
Free Ore
The chamber around the gate contains numerous ore spots that you can mine for ore nuggets, multiple spots are scattered throughout this area, so be sure to sweep the room to collect as much ore as possible before moving on.
Chest Lockpick Combination
After you’ve passed the gate, keep following the path and you’ll encounter a locked chest. Since the chest is submerged you’ll have to worry about oxygen levels, follow the below steps to unlock the chest quickly and replenish oxygen before you die.
- Move the 4th plate to the left once.
- Move the 5th plate to the right once.
- Move the 3rd plate to the left 3 times.
- Then move the 2nd plate to the right once.
- Select and move the 1st plate to the right 2 times.
- Move the 4th plate to the right once.
- Move the 3rd plate to the right 4 times.
- Finally move the 6th plate to the right once.
The following items can be collected upon unlocking the chest – Thorn of Wounds weapon, Gold, Iron, Arrows and Ore Nuggets.
