PlayStation Studio welcomed Firewalk Studios into the PlayStation Studios family on April 20, 2023. Since then, there have been many leaks about the upcoming title the new studio is working on. We have known for a while now that the new game in development at Firewalk Studios is titled Concord and the game is out now on PlayStation and PC.
Concord is a touted as an original AAA multiplayer game in a sci-fi universe with 5v5 multiplayer FPS. The game is currently out on Steam and PlayStation, but the response from players could not be any worst. At the time of writing, the 24 hours peak concurrent players on Steam is 332 players with a lifetime high of 697. Skull & Bones from Ubisoft released several months back and recently added to Steam has a current player count of 848 and an all time high of 1,003. With Skull & Bones, the number of understandable as most of it’s player base are already enjoying the game on Epic Games Store or the Ubisoft Connect.
It can also be argued that the performance of the game was impacted due to several major releases such as Black Myth Wukong and XDefiant, Arena Breakout Infinite, etc. Two of these games are also multiplayer shooters with a different world of course. While there may have been some impact, the abysmal performance of Concord cannot be blamed on other games. There are smaller Indie games that released the same time as Concord and are performing better.
We hope that the Firewalk Studios do some real soul searching if they want this game to succeed. In my personal opinion, the game is not half bad, but does not compare to the superior experience in XDefiant. Another argument to the failure of Concord could be that the multiplayer FPS genre is already crowded with major games.
