In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the quest An Education tasks players with reporting to Nobutsuna Sensei as Yasuke. This guide will walk you through locating him, interacting with key objects, and progressing the mission efficiently. Whether you’re aiming for a smooth experience or uncovering hidden details, this step-by-step breakdown ensures you won’t miss a thing.
Finding Nobutsuna Sensei
The first objective of the An Education quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is to report to Nobutsuna Sensei as Yasuke. To find Nobutsuna Sensei, use the following hints: he is located in Omi, at the castle in Azuchi, near the training grounds. To pinpoint his location, use your Scouts on the word “Azuchi” on the map, which will reveal the waypoint.
Once you arrive at the waypoint, your next task is to read a letter inside the building. If you’re having trouble finding it, use the Observe ability to spot a small blue dot indicating its location.
Reading the letter triggers a flashback sequence where you take control of a younger Yasuke preparing for training. Follow the retainer to the training grounds to begin.
Dueling Nagayoshi – Training Challenge
Your first test in training is a duel against Nagayoshi. While he isn’t the toughest opponent, his unblockable attacks can make the fight challenging. Most of his attacks are marked with red indicators, meaning counters won’t work. Instead, focus on dodging each time a red indicator appears in his attack sequence.
After successfully dodging the final red attack, Nagayoshi will be stunned. Take advantage of this moment by holding R2/RT to unleash a powerful strike. Once you defeat Nagayoshi, return to your room, where you’ll face a rival student. This duel is much easier, requiring only a few sword swings to win.
A Chance for Romance & A Mysterious Chase
After defeating the rival student in a duel, Yasuke will have an interaction with Lady Oichi. This moment presents an opportunity to begin a romance with her. When she says, “It must be lonely, far from your family and home,” a dialogue option with a heart icon will appear. If you’re interested in romancing her, be sure to select it.
Once the conversation ends, a new day begins, and your first objective is to chase a suspicious man. This chase is fairly straightforward, as the man doesn’t run far. Simply keep up with him by following his waypoint until he stops at the far corner of the castle. Once he halts, approach him to complete the objective. A series of cutscenes will then play, leading to your next lesson—mastering combos as Yasuke.
Mastering Combos – The Toughest Challenge
Among all the objectives in the An Education quest, mastering combos is arguably the most difficult. This section requires absolute precision—if you miss a single button input, you’ll have to retry that specific combo sequence.
Here are some key visual cues to help you succeed:
- Black circle with a white line: Hold the corresponding button until the circle fills.
- Large white blinking circle: Tap the designated button.
- Small white circle with a shrinking outer line: Press the button when the outer line reaches the circle.
There are five combo sets to master, and the last two can be particularly tricky. It may take multiple attempts, so patience is essential to completing this challenge.
Final Showdown – Defeating Masatoyo’s Students
The last objective in the An Education quest is to eliminate Masatoyo’s students in a final battle. However, this fight is uneven, as it’s three against one.
Fortunately, each student goes down after just a few hits. Be mindful of attack indicators:
- Red indicators: These signal unblockable attacks—dodge to avoid them.
- Blue indicators: These typically come in sets of three and can be countered.
- White indicators (rare): A quick tap of the counter button will suffice.
The best approach for this fight is to stay aggressive. Yasuke is significantly stronger than Naoe and can easily break through blocks and guard counters.
Once all the students are defeated, a cutscene will play, marking the end of the quest. This completion unlocks the next main story quest, Lady of Whispers, along with the People of Omi and The Corrupt Daikan quest chains.
