“The Perfect Gift” is a main story quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, located in the Izumi Settsu region. You can access it after finding Imai Sokyu in the “Searching Sakai” quest. This mission plays a crucial role in your search for the Golden Teppo.
Where to Find Tea Merchant
In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the quest “The Perfect Gift” will appear under The Golden Teppo section in your Objectives menu. To complete it, you’ll need to track down a tea merchant who can teach you the proper etiquette for a tea ceremony at Imai Sokyu’s house. You can find the merchant in one of three locations: Western Settsu, Northern Sakai, or at the outdoor stalls. If you’re unsure where to look, simply check the map for guidance.
Meeting Sen no Rikyu
You’ll find the tea merchant at the stalls along the northern shore of Sakai’s island. When you speak with him, he’ll introduce you to Sen no Rikyu, the person you’re actually looking for. While Sen no Rikyu plays a bigger role later when unlocking the Tea House for your Hideout, you don’t need to worry about that just yet. After a brief conversation, you’ll follow him to his home.
Learning the Art of the Tea Ceremony
At Sen no Rikyu’s house, he’ll begin teaching you the art of the tea ceremony. When prompted, choose to bow halfway, as all participants in a tea ceremony are considered equals. After sharing tea and learning the traditions, he’ll ask you to select a gift to bring to Master Sokyu’s tea ceremony. You can choose from a Yixing teapot, a tea-leaf jar, or a bamboo ladle. There’s no wrong choice, so pick whichever feels right, though the bamboo ladle is the canon option.
Before you can attend the ceremony, you’ll need a kosode, which you can obtain by completing the Dress for Success quest. Once you’ve finished both The Perfect Gift and Dress for Success, you’ll be ready to move on to The Tea Ceremony.
