In Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ “Darkness Falls” quest, players find themselves in the midst of a tense peace conference at Kofukuji Temple, where the identity of “The Wise” needs to be revealed. As the negotiations hang in the balance between Joken Hokkyo, Tsutsui Junkei, and Akiyama Ayako, Yasuke has a do-or-die choice: accusing whom of being the covert foe. Though the game sets three independent decisions, the plot ultimately leans on making Joken Hokkyo the main antagonist no matter which initial suspicion has been set forth. The following guide will discuss the effect of each decision, detailing how the game takes control away from the player to present a predetermined conclusion.
Darkness Falls in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
To begin the Darkness Falls quest, open the Objectives Board, scroll to the Shinbakufu group, and select the quest listed under The Wise. Head to Kofukuji Temple and wait by a leaning tree to the southwest. A confirmation dialogue will appear, choose “I’m ready to start” to proceed. You’ll also have the option to select your character before continuing.
Once inside, head up the stairs and enter the building to join the peace talks. Speak with Joken Hokkyo, Lady Ayako, and Tsutsui Junkei. Kojiro stands to the northwest to talk to him.
At this point, you’ll be given a key dialogue choice:
- Accuse Tsutsui Junkei
- Accuse Joken Hokkyo (Correct answer)
- Accuse Akiyama Ayako
No matter which option you pick, the outcome remains the same.
Should You Accuse Joken Hokkyo in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
If the players accuse Joken Hokkyo, he scoffs and claims that Yasuke has lost his mind. Enraged, the samurai hurls his knife straight at the monk’s head. Without hesitation, Joken catches the blade between his hands, effortlessly revealing his true identity, The Wise. Without missing a beat, he commands his men to slaughter everyone, starting with Yasuke.
Should You Accuse Tsutsui Junkei in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Tsutsui Junkei doesn’t take kindly to being accused, but before he can react, Kojiri suddenly speaks up, urging Yasuke to throw his blade at Joken Hokkyo. Why the samurai follows this advice without question is anyone’s guess, but the result is undeniable, Joken effortlessly catches the blade, revealing his true identity.
Should You Accuse Akiyama Ayako in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Accusing Akiyama Ayako unfolds much like accusing Tsutsui Junkei. Ayako protests, Kojiri urges Yasuke to throw his blade at Joken Hokkyo, and chaos erupts. A massive brawl breaks out, and once Joken’s men are dealt with, the players must hunt down the monk and put an end to him for good.
