Monster Hunter Wilds Sandstar Location and How to Catch

The elusive Sandstar, a radiant, nighttime animal in Monster Hunter Wilds, is a special challenge for hunters. Only found in the Windward Plains, these skittish animals need a mix of stealth and clever tool use to catch. This guide will take you through the exact location of Sandstars, the key steps to catching them, and how to obtain the Screamer Pods needed, so you can successfully add this elusive creature to your collection.

Sandstar Location in MH Wilds

Sandstars can only be found in the Windward Plains, mainly around Sector 13. To get there, you can either auto-path using the Seikret or fast travel to the nearby pop-up camp. Keep in mind, Sandstars only appear at night. If it’s still daytime, you’ll need to wait or change the time of day by resting at a pop-up camp or Base Camp. Just remember you can only change the time in specific biomes after reaching High Rank in Chapter 4-1.

How to Catch Sandstar in MH Wilds

Though small, Sandstars are easy to spot at night in the Windward Plains thanks to their glowing blue color against the sandy dunes. When you see one, move slowly and use a Screamer Pod to stun it. Once it’s immobilized, quickly equip your Capture Net and use it — you’ll have enough time before the stun wears off.

If you’re successful, you’ll get the achievement prompt: “I Caught a Shooting Star!”

If you’re struggling to find a Sandstar, try leaving the area and returning during the night. It might take a few tries, so don’t get discouraged if they don’t show up right away!

Sandstars are easily startled and will run away as soon as you get too close. While the Ghillie Mantle is usually helpful for sneaking up on small prey, it won’t work on Sandstars they can see right through the disguise. Instead, you’ll need a different approach. The key tool for this is the Screamer Pod, but you’ll have to find those out in the field first.

Screamer Pods Location

To craft Screamer Pods, head to the Windward Plains and look for a Baunos flying in the sky. Once you spot one, equip your Capture Net, aim carefully, and follow the on-screen prompt to fire your Hook Slinger. This will let you collect an Echo Feather, which you can then use to craft Screamer Pods.
