Exploring the world of Avowed is full of interesting quests, difficult puzzles, and secret rewards. One of such quests, Avowed Dawntreader, leads you into the depths of the Eothasian Temple, where you have to find out what happened to a lost scout team. Along the way, you’ll encounter barriers like a charged gate that needs an electric shock, an electrified pool that will get in your way, and a mysterious Oracle who is not as forthcoming with information as he appears. This walkthrough will take you through every step of the process, allowing you to make your way forward, solve the most important puzzles, and finally open the barred door that’s blocking your path.
Beginning the Avowed Dawntreader Quest
While exploring Dawnshore, make your way to the city of Paradis and head to the southernmost part of the Aedryan Embassy. This is where the Avowed Dawntreader quest begins. You’ll come across a distressed man named Ofryc, who shares that his brother, Caedmon, and a group of scouts were sent to investigate a Temple of Eothas but never returned. Concerned for their safety, he asks you to track them down and uncover what happened.
Journey to the Eothasian Temple
To reach the temple, you’ll need to leave Paradis and travel northeast along the Pilgrim’s Path. Along the way, you’ll encounter two NPCs arguing near a rock pass. You must find a way to persuade them to let you through, whether by reason or force. Once past them, continue forward until you reach a cave entrance leading to the Eothasian Temple.
Solving the Essence Generator Puzzle
Inside the first cavern, you will encounter a locked gate requiring a small puzzle to be solved. To open it, activate the two Essence Generator mechanisms on either side of the door using an Electric Lily Seed, an electricity-based spell, or a weapon that deals electric damage. Beyond the gate, be prepared to face a few skeleton enemies. After defeating them, they continue deeper into the cave by passing a speared bear statue and taking the right-hand path. As you progress, you’ll encounter more enemies and collect useful rewards.
Finding Caedmon and Crossing the Electrified Pool
Eventually, you’ll reach a waterfall with a glowing purple cavern beyond it. However, the pool of water in front of you is electrified due to fallen equipment. To safely cross, jump onto the table, then onto the stairs, and make your way up. Here, you’ll finally find Caedmon, who was left behind by his team after sustaining an injury. You can choose to heal him with a potion, after which he will ask you to check on the rest of his group.
Meeting Sargamis, the Golden Oracle
Following Caedmon’s request, continue up the ramp and traverse the ledges further into the cave. After crossing a wooden bridge, you’ll enter a more open area with a ring of dirt in the center and a large statue surrounded by scaffolding. Here, you’ll meet Sargamis, a golden godlike Oracle. When questioned, he denies seeing the missing expedition team but asks you to retrieve a relic called the Splinter of Eothas from deeper within the cave. He also hints that you might find the missing scouts along the way.
Unlocking the Barred Door – How To Open
Sargamis’ evasive answers can make you suspicious, and you can fight him right away. But unless you want to fight, it might be wise not to proceed for the moment. Instead, keep following his directions and head up the stairs. On this level, you will see a door with bars, which you can open by pressing a switch on the wall opposite it.
