Your quest is about harvesting a scarce medicinal plant, acquiring key land documents, and going through delicate negotiations with callous smugglers. During your journey, you will make choices that impact the fate of the couple. This walkthrough is a step-by-step guide to the quest, examines major choices and outcomes, and fixes a known quest bug to assist you in finishing it smoothly.
Escape Plan Quest in Avowed
In the Escape Plan side quest in Avowed, you will assist a couple in their journey to Thirdborn by helping them overcome two key obstacles. After finishing the Message from Afar, head outside Liviana’s Clinic in Southern Paradis and take the steps to the left.
There, Remei Gardiola will call out to you. She recognizes your reputation and requests your help with Glaedwine and Leoflaed, a young couple seeking to escape the Aedyran authorities and start a new life in Thirdborn.
Before they can leave, two critical tasks remain. First, you must find a medicinal herb to restore lost eyesight. Second, you will need to retrieve the deeds for their purchased land from the Artisan’s District in Paradis. If you agree to help, the quest officially begins, setting you on a path to secure your freedom.
Finding Ondra’s Kiss
To find Ondra’s Kiss, head east of Paradis toward the chasm, just south of the Watcher’s Mirror point of interest. You will know you are in the right place when you spot a massive dragon-like skeleton embedded in the cliff wall across the chasm. The Ondra’s Kiss plant is tucked in a corner right on the edge, so be careful when approaching to collect it.
Retrieving the Thirdborn Land Deeds
Next, to obtain the Thirdborn Land Deeds, make your way to the Pearl District in Paradis. As you enter a small, secluded area, you will come across a corpse. Loot it to claim the land deeds and earn 78 XP. Once you have them, head southwest, exit Paradis through the main gate, and make your way into Shantytown. On the upper levels, you will find Leoflaed and Glaedwine waiting in a bedroom.
You can hand over the Ondra’s Kiss and the land deeds one by one, but they have another problem: the smugglers they hired for safe passage have discovered their past and doubled the fare. They now need your help to negotiate. If you ask about their history, they will admit to killing two people, claiming it was in self-defense. At this point, you must decide whether to help them or report them to Captain Aelfyr.
Negotiating with the Smugglers
If you choose to confront the smugglers, travel northwest to the coastline above Dehengen’s Cottage and the Fractured Shore. There, you’ll find a small dock where the smugglers have set up camp. Speak with Captain Soldis to negotiate on the couple’s behalf. If you had previously saved Ilora from her cell during the first mission in Northreach, this encounter would have gone much smoother.
You will have several options: demand that Soldis honor the original deal you’ll have to pay for, agree to cover the increased fare, or, if Ilora is on your side, have her persuade Soldis to honor the original price free of charge. If Ilora isn’t rescued, you will need to either pay the higher fee or fight the smugglers.
Resolving the Couple’s Fate
Once you resolve the issue, return to Leoflaed and Glaedwine with the good news. Relieved, they will thank you and reward you with 10 Softwood Branches, 10 Pelts, 2 Paradisan Ladders, 10 Iron Chunks, and 392 XP. The side quest then concludes, and the couple invites you to visit them if you ever find yourself in Thirdborn.
Reporting the Fugitives to Captain Aelfyr
Alternatively, if you decide to report the couple instead, you will need to head to the eastern section of Paradis Hightown to speak with Captain Aelfyr. When you approach her, you will first have to settle a minor dispute regarding the Paradis Militia loitering in certain areas of the city.
The Consequences of Your Choice
While the outcome of that dispute doesn’t affect the main decision, be sure to continue the conversation by telling Aelfyr you have additional information. Report the fugitives by providing their description and location. Aelfyr will thank you, stating that she intends to make an example of them. Kai, however, will express his disapproval of your decision to turn them in. With that, the side quest concludes, and you earn 470 XP.
Escape Plan Quest Bug
When you are stuck on the “Escape Plan” quest. You are supposed to fight some smugglers, but they are just not there. You have tried reloading and camping, but nothing has worked. To solve the issue, you can try doing a completely different quest; you can do some bounties. After that, the smuggler will finally show up when you go back to the original spot.
The quest marker might be misleading you. Try zooming out on your map and looking west towards the Fractured Coast. You should see the marker around that area. If you go straight north from where you initially landed, you will find a graveyard. From there, head west, and you should find a beach camp.
