To become a mage early in Gothic Remake from the very beginning of the game, there is no need to wait till further chapters. It is possible to collect your first spells within Chapter 1 of the game after completing a number of quests and some initial preparations. You will still need to use melee combat for a short time, but once you learn rune magic and start increasing your mana, you will be ready to fight with spells. How To Be A Mage
In order to be a mage as soon as possible in Gothic 1 Remake, it is possible to activate the magic skill at the beginning of the first chapter, before entering any factions yet. Although you will play a mage, at the start of the game, you will still have to fight. At the Old Camp, you should meet Skippy, who gives the skill of One-Handed Weapon Fighting.
Start The Magic Quest
Now talk to Torrez at the Old Camp. Before Torrez can teach you magic, it would be best if you talked to Diego first to start the questline to join the Shadows. Afterwards, talk to Torrez once more, who will give you the quest The Price of Magic. You will need:
- 2 Wolf Claws
- 1 Parchment
After handing over the Wolf Claws and Parchment, Torrez introduces you to Rune Magic. He lets you choose one of two starter runes:
- Firebolt
- Healing
Both are useful, and you can buy the other one later. Your next goal is increasing your mana. Leave the Old Camp and head toward the New Camp. The safest route is:
- Leave the Old Camp.
- Follow the road to the Old Mine.
- Continue straight from the Old Mine until you reach the New Camp.
Once inside the New Camp:
- Walk through the rice fields.
- Follow the path toward the lake.
- Cross the wooden bridge.
- Continue until you reach Cronos.
You don’t have to be part of the New Camp for that. You can find Cronos; he’s the NPC who will teach you about Mana. Use all your remaining Learning Points here. The advantage of choosing this build is that you will make Chapters 1 and 2 easy if you play as a Mage. Even though you will have to join a camp at some point to gain access to powerful spells, this is by far the quickest way to use magic.
