Eyes Wide with Fear starts like a mystery and ends like a small, muddy battle – first you piece together a survivor’s diary, then you follow that clue to a buried chest. This guide walks you through both stages: finding the diary fragments, locating and digging up the Madman’s Chest and claiming the quest rewards so you can move on without wasting time or supplies.
Eyes Wide with Fear

When you’re progressing your main questline, a side quest will appear on the map called Eyes Wide with Fear. This marker will lead you to an abandoned campfire where you’ll find the survivors’ diary which leads to a treasure.
Finding the Survivor’s Diary

When you reach the abandoned campfire, look for a treasure chest like shown in the above image, inside which you’ll find the survivors diary which will lead to another location where the treasure chest is buried which is on the same island, so you don’t have to worry about sailing off to a new location.
Madman’s Treasure Chest

This location is shown with a blue marker as shown in the above image, which should be closer to the abandoned campfire.

When you reach the location, start digging around the ground near the location and you’ll eventually find the treasure chest which will give you Guinea coins and Tumbaga Ingot. You can buy stuff with Guinea coins through smugglers or any other factions and Tumbaga Ingot can be used for upgrades. With this you’ve successfully completed the Eyes Wide with Fear side quest.
