Windrose’s progression hinges on one heavy, unglamorous resource: iron. You won’t stumble across it on early beaches – iron ore lives in mine deposits deeper into the Foothills and turning that raw ore into usable Iron Ingots requires planning: the right tools, a charcoal kiln for fuel and a smelting furnace to refine the ore. This guide shows where to find iron ore in Foothills and turn them into iron ingots.
How to get Iron Ore?

To find iron ores, you’d have to progress the main questline to the Foothills. You can travel to Foothills after you’ve defeated the local threat of Coastal Jungle – Thomas Richards.
Where to Find Iron Ore?

When you’re in the Foothills, look for point of interest markers on the map. Explore these markers and you’ll come across a cave which has iron deposits.

Inside the cave, look for walls which have brownish spots as shown in the above image. Mine them using a pickaxe, stone pickaxe will suffice. You are going to unlock new schematics to craft high tier tools, upgrades for your ship etc.
Smelting Iron Ore

To smelt iron ore into Iron Ingots, you’re going to need 2 structures – a charcoal kiln and a smelting furnace. You deposit wood into the charcoal kiln to create coal and then use the coal and iron ores to make iron ingots through the smelting furnace.
