Spirit is a new resource introduced in Path of Exile 2. If you have played PoE, Life, and Mana, they are the resources used instead of Spirit. While Life and Mana are still a part of the Path of Exile 2 mechanics, the addition of Spirit complicates things.
Spirit in the game is used to increase the cooldown or power up abilities or skills that have a lingering or permanent effect, such as character buffs, permanent minions, trigger gems, and auras. However, there is only so much Spirit you can get before you find yourself searching for more.
This guide will detail everything you need to know about farming Spirit in Path of Exile 2, including the bosses to beat, the items to obtain, and more.
What are Spirits in Path of Exile 2
Spirits are a new resource added to the latest title in the PoE series. And unlike the other two resources – Life and Mana, there is no loss of Spirit, and you do not gain it over time. Instead, there are specific ways to achieve Spirit, such as consuming boss drops and equipping items with Spirit.
At the start of the game, you will not have Spirit and, hence, cannot activate the meta gem, enable minions, or use auras.
Spirit helps you unlock and use permanent character buffs like Herald of Ash, Thunder, etc. To unlock and use these skills, you need to reserve Spirit. The Herald of Thunder requires you to recover 30 Spirit. Once you reserve Spirit to a skill, you can use it indefinitely without the Spirit depleting.
You can equip unlimited meta gems or auras from your skill bar if you have the Spirit to reserve the skill. Simply click on the gem to activate the skill that will consume the Spirit bar; you can check it at the bottom right corner of the screen – above the Blue Orb.
You will also need Spirit to activate the revivable minions. Once you have sufficient Spirit, you can go to the skill tab and reserve the Spirit to the skill gem.
How to Get More Spirits in Path of Exile 2
Spirits are important as they activate some of the best skills in the game and provide options to develop Spirit-based builds. Here are all the ways to get Spirit in Path of Exile 2.
Farm Optional Bosses
Most of the Acts in the game allow you to fight an optional boss that drops a rare item. Consuming these items can permanently increase the Spirit reserve. In Act 1, you can fight the King of the Mists, who drops the Gembloom Skull. Consuming the item grants you a max Spirit of +30. Not all Acts in the game have bosses that drop the Spirit-boosting resources. Here are all Acts that drop Spirit.
- Act 1 – 30 Spirit – Defeat King of the Mists to Get Gembloom Skull
- Act 3 – 30 Spirit – Defeat “Ignagduk the Bog Witch” in “The Azak Bog” to get the Gemrot Skull. You can get to the boss as part of the Tribal Vengeance quest.
- Act 6 – 40 Spirit— Get Gemcrust Skull from The Witch in Bog (We are still working to reach this part of the campaign. We will update the post when we do.)
Tip: When exploring the map world, look for boss icons with the skull and hover over the skull with the plus icon to check the bosses that drop Spirit items.
Gears Such as Sceptres
One of the best ways to get Spirit reserve early on, and a good amount of it, is to equip Spectres in the off-hand slot. With the Spectres, you can +100 Spirit and increase the Spirit with “+Spirit” affixes. Watch for gears that come with Spirit stats as you go through the game’s campaign. Below are some of the gears and the spirit they offer.
Weapons
- Font of Power Omen Sceptre comes with 100 Spirit and (30–50)% increased spirit with “+Spirit” affixes.
- +(130–150) to Spirit
Armor
- Oaksworn Sigil Crest Shield comes with +50 to Spirit
- Alpha’s Howl Armoured Cap comes with +100 to Spirit
- Enfolding Dawn Pilgrim Vestments come with +100 to Spirit
Jewelry
- Ventor’s Gamble Gold Ring gives +(0–20) to Spirit
- Ligurium Talisman Lapis Amulet gives +(25–35) to Spirit
Skill Nodes and Ascendancy Skills
The Witch’s Infernalist Ascendancy has the Beidat’s Will node, which provides the buffs “Reserves 25% of Life” and “+1 to Maximum Spirit for every 25 Maximum Life.” If you want to create a summoner, you will want to pursue the Witch’s Infernalist Ascendancy, as one of its perks boosts the Spirit.
