With the release of the Fellhollow update, players now have access to mounts in RuneScape: DragonWilds. The new mount can be obtained by finding Terror Bird hidden in the new biome. You must be prepared to explore and take calculated risks in your quest to obtain the new mount. This article covers how to begin your journey, where to locate the Spirit Terror Birds, and what to expect along the way.
A Quick Note About the Mount
Before jumping into the process, it’s worth knowing what to expect. Although the mount looks cool, it is also fragile and will stop working if hit once by any means; furthermore, this mount is faster than running but offers very little in terms of velocity to the user; and finally, it also has a small gliding effect, but it won’t save you from fall damage.
However, this mount can still help players navigate the world of Fellhollow; players can utilise it effectively if they are cautious of their surroundings, and there may be improvements to this mount in future updates.
Where to Start the Quest

When you arrive in Fellhollow, you will enter the region of Bleakfields Valley. The map displays three major different pathways at this location, and you will also see the standing stones located here which help you with the collection of shards required for facing the final dragon boss.

To initiate the quest for the mount, move toward the upper left section on the map, specifically where the northern path meets the west path. You will find a structure in this area with an NPC. Speak with him and he will inform you that he is searching for three hearts from Spirit Terror Birds and that these Spirit Terror Birds can only be found in the Willow Groves.
How to Identify Willow Groves & Prepare for the Hunt

Once you know what to look for, it is quite simple to identify willow trees with their drooping leaves (as opposed to having upright leaves). You can generally find a greater number of willows standing together (not just one or two).
Isolated willow trees can be spotted throughout the map, while groves always contain multiple willow trees growing closely together. As you continue to reveal the fog on the map, you will notice that the groves become easier to identify.
Fellhollow is dangerous, especially in the northern areas. Before tracking down the Spirit Terror Birds, it helps to be prepared:
- Bring food that helps with bleeding resistance (roast dinner works well)
- Carry respawn stones
- Speed potions help if you’re underleveled
- Steel gear and better armor are highly recommended
- Waypoint stones make backtracking much easier
You’ll also want willow wood later to craft a steel axe, which is required to cut through certain roots and dead trees in Fell Hollow.
Spirit Terror Bird Locations
1. Northern Grove (High Risk)

The first grove is located North of the valley that is past a long spire. There are level 5 enemies in this area and you will also come across a very strong skeletal foe. Attempting to fight this skeleton directly can be difficult, even at higher levels.
What you can do is keep your distance and use the terrain. Climb ruins to avoid attacks and use snare traps if they’re unlocked.

The Spirit Terror Birds themselves wander in shallow water. As long as you don’t attack them, they’ll keep their distance and only emit warning sounds. Once killed, they drop the Primordial heart you need.
2. Western Grove

From the NPC’s location, follow the western path into the Witchwillow Range. There are no groves to the east, so don’t waste time searching there.
Once inside Witchwillow Range, head south to reach the second grove. Like the first, it contains water pools where the Spirit Terror Birds roam and plenty of resources worth gathering.
3. Northwestern Grove (Final Heart)

The last grove is located far to the northwest, right near the edge of the map. You’ll spot multiple willow trees, pools of water, and a slight uphill path leading to the glade.
This area is relatively easy to recognize, and the bird is usually wandering around in plain sight.
Emberwood and the Green Dragon (Optional)

If you continue west and follow the path as it curves north, you’ll pass through a dangerous graveyard and eventually reach Emberwood. This region contains:
- A puzzle involving three ghostly figures
- The green dragon (very dangerous if underleveled)
You can sneak around the dragon if needed. There’s a golden chest near one of the large pillars, and the final Spirit Terror Bird is found slightly uphill from this area.
Turning in the Quest

Once you’ve collected all three hearts, return to the NPC where you started. You’ll now be able to summon and use the ghostly mount.
The game also hints that you can collect additional hearts to unlock mounts for friends, suggesting that Spirit Terror Birds likely respawn after some time.
