If you’re struggling with the Dalang boss fight in Where Winds Meet, you’re not alone. Dalang hits incredibly hard, has tricky movement, and fights alongside the Horse Dancer during the first phase, making the whole encounter feel chaotic. This guide breaks down everything in simple steps so you know exactly what to expect and how to bring Dalang down.
Dalang In Where Winds Meet
You will encounter Dalang in Chapter 1 of the main quest “A Horse Neighs in the Forest,” where it is compulsory to defeat this boss in order to advance the storyline. The fight can become very difficult very quickly. Dalang have a big health bar, and his blows deal massive damage, so just a couple of mistakes can lead to defeat. Moreover, the Horse Dancer will constantly interfere, shooting poison darts from the side while you try to deal with Dalang. Besides, Dalang enters another phase after you empty its first health bar.
Dalang Fight Setup
For this fight, it’s best to use the Nameless Sword as your main weapon art. It’s quick, has good reach, and lets you slip in hits between Dalang’s attacks. As a backup, the Nameless Spear is a great choice because its longer range lets you deal damage at Dalang safely whenever you don’t want to get too close.
For your core Mystic Art, go with Cloud Steps. The extra mobility really helps you dodge Dalang’s charges more easily, reposition when the Horse Dancer gets annoying, and quickly change your angle to stay safe while still dealing damage.
How to Defeat Dalang
At the start of the fight, your main goal should be Dalang and deal as much damage as you can to Dalang. Don’t worry about the Owner; their poison darts are actually a big help. If you position yourself so that Dalang is always between you and the Owner, the boss will end up getting hit by those poison shots instead of you, which slowly chips away at its health over time.
Once you reach Phase 2, the fight becomes a straight 1v1. This is where you really need to learn Dalang’s attack timings, especially its multi-stomp combo. If you can consistently parry those stomps, you’ll get a clean opening at the end to land a strong counterattack. Doing this repeatedly is one of the easiest ways to break down Dalang’s Qi bar and finish the fight much faster.
Phase 1

Dalang uses a mix of big jumps, charges, and heavy stomps throughout the fight, and most of these moves create shockwaves you’ll need to react to.
- The Heavenly Horse attack has Dalang leaping into the air and slamming down four times in a row, each impact sending out a shockwave you can dodge or parry.
- The regular stomp attack works the same way as four quick ground slams that can be dealt with by either dodging or timing your parries.
- Dalang will also charge straight at you, suddenly dashing forward after a brief wind-up.
- Moves like Dalang Charge, Double Mare (a double head swing with a lunge), and the simple headbutt all fall into this category and can be parried or dodged if you keep your eyes on their wind-up animations.
- There’s also Baji Quan, where Dalang shifts sideways, rushes in with their shoulder, and then stomps a few times.
- Gold Ship, where Dalang jumps into the air and drop-kicks you, can still be avoided or parried, just don’t try to move forward into the attack.
When Dalang starts spinning to create shockwaves before immediately charging, that’s the Horse-nado, which can also be dodged or parried.
Phase 2

In Phase 2, these moves get more dramatic. The red version of Heavenly Horse works like before, but now Dalang follows the slam with a glowing red stomp that shakes the entire area. If you time it perfectly, you can parry this for a strong counterattack or dodge it. The gold version of Dalang Charge is trickier. Dalang flashes with a golden glow just before hitting you, and this is the one attack you cannot parry. You’ll have to dodge it cleanly to stay alive.
