The Saboteur of Paradise Quest Guide – The Outer Worlds 2

The Saboteur of Paradise marks your first major story mission in The Outer Worlds 2, sending you to the conflicted Paradise Island to track down Augustine de Vries. What starts as a simple pursuit quickly spirals into political intrigue, factional tension, and a devastating moral choice. This guide breaks down every step: from entering Fairfield to confronting the chaos at the Vox Relay Station.

Arriving in Fairfield & Starting the Quest

Upon reaching Paradise Island, you’ll find yourself just outside the very gates of Fairfield, a new township under the management of Auntie’s Choice following a clash with Protectorate You’ll find the air around to be thick with tension and you’ll soon become a part of it.

Head inside to the main office building, and make note of Minister Milverstreet and Acquisitions Officer Kaur, who are each engaged on their phones with their respective authorities. It is safe to infer they are not entirely aligned on whether Auntie’s Choice would run Fairfield’s future. Here, you have the option to accept each of their quests, all of which culminate their different opinions. Milverstreet is someone who pushes for diplomacy and minimal bloodshed while Kaur is a person who advocates for a direct and forceful strike against the Protectorate.

For you, choosing one side will permanently block the other. But here’s the catch, before you commit to either of the sides, you can postpone the decision by focusing on tracking de Vries instead — your true objective for now.

If you ask the Minister about de Vries, he will send you toward Fairfield’s records office. There, you will discover that she once lived in the town back when the Protectorate still ran things. You can search her old residence to find a personal journal and a tracker, both hinting that she’s moved north toward the Vox Relay Station.

But there’s a problem here, the northern region of Paradise Island isn’t freely accessible. You’ll have to find a way to cross the river separating it from Fairfield but there’s more than one solution.

Reaching Paradise Island’s Northern Zone & Breaking Into the Vox Relay Station

The most straightforward route involves taking on one of the faction missions from either Milverstreet or Kaur. Completing either quest will earn you a way across.

But you can also skip Fairfield’s politics entirely and work with the Protectorate. To do that, head toward the bridge guarded by their troops. The Warden stationed there offers a task; once completed, she’ll grant you permission to pass.

You won’t be right at the Vox Relay yet, but it’s a big step closer. The Vox Relay Station is a heavily fortified facility in the north. When you arrive, a guard at the entrance will stop you, but she won’t attack unless provoked.

If you’ve completed a quest for Vigilant Hogarth in Westport, you can present his written authorization to the guard. Because Hogarth has since been branded a traitor, though, you’ll still need to talk her into disobeying orders. A successful persuasion check gets you safely inside. Otherwise, you’ll need to rely on stealth or combat to breach the compound.

Inside the Station: Montelli and Corbin

How things play out within the Vox Relay depends partly on your actions earlier in the game.

If you helped Cadet Corbin clear his disciplinary file during the tutorial mission, he’ll now appear as Marshal Corbin. Mention Hogarth, and he’ll agree that Montelli, the station’s commanding officer, has become a liability. You can then collaborate with Corbin by gathering evidence while he rallies other personnel for a confrontation.

If Corbin isn’t present, you’ll explore the station on your own until you encounter Montelli directly. Here, your dialogue skills and the information you’ve uncovered determine whether the standoff ends peacefully or with a fight.

The First Major Decision – Fairfield or Westport

Once Montelli has been dealt with, continue deeper into the Vox Relay. There, you’ll find a recorded message from de Vries revealing that she’s sabotaged the station. The relay is about to launch into orbit and crash back down — straight toward Fairfield. Accessing the control panel presents three options:

  1. Let the relay crash into Fairfield.
  1. Divert it to destroy Westport instead.
  1. Save both settlements,  but only if your character has the Lucky trait, or at least 4 points in Hack and 6 Bypass Shunts.

Without those stats, you’re forced to make a choice. Sacrificing Fairfield causes Inez to leave your party permanently, though her companion quest remains playable if started earlier.

Once the crisis is resolved, you’ll be left with new clues about Augustine de Vries’ whereabouts, setting the stage for the next step in your investigation.
