You will come across The Saga of the Malfunctioning Mechanicals when you talk to Vigilant Hogarth in Westport, a Protectorate settlement on the eastern coast of Paradise Island in The Outer Worlds 2. Hogarth is struggling with broken mechs around town and needs your help to get things running again. Make sure to finish The Brain Benders of Auntie’s Choice! Quest first. If you don’t, you might end up stuck later when Vigilant Hogarth moves to Fairfield. This guide will walk you through how to get the ARC Access Pass, where to find the missing parts, and how to complete the quest.
The Saga of the Malfunctioning Mechanicals Quest
You can start The Saga of Malfunctioning Mechanicals by talking to Vigilant Hogarth in Westport and offering to help him with the settlement’s mech problem. Westport is a Protectorate outpost located along the eastern coast of Paradise Island.
Getting Access to the Automech Repair Center (ARC)
To help Hogarth, you will need to find the parts he’s missing. These are locked away inside the Automech Repair Center (ARC), and to get in, you will need an ARC Access Pass. You can print this pass at the Ministry of Accuracy. If your character has Engineering 3, or a mix of Engineering 2 and Speech 3, you can skip the pass entirely and go straight to the ARC.
The ARC Access Pass
Head to the Ministry of Accuracy, located on the southwestern coast of Paradise Island. You will find a few Raptidons roaming outside. Take them out before going in. Inside, you will meet Inez, who can later join you as a Companion. Behind Inez, go through the only open door (the other one will be locked) to enter a large hall filled with more Raptidons.
Clear them out, then look for a ladder on the wall near the entrance. Climb it to reach the rafters, then jump across the broken walkway to find a Terminal on the second floor. Use it to print your ARC Access Pass. Once you have the pass, travel south of Westport to find the Automech Repair Centre. When you arrive, talk to Cade Tierny at the gate and show him the pass to get inside.
The Automech Replacement Parts
From the entrance, move south until you reach a large hangar. Turn right and continue toward the main ARC compound. Here, you will see Marshal Donelson and Chief Mechanist Woodrow Contos nearby.
In the courtyard, look northwest for a large building with a glowing sign, near the ARC infirmary. Outside that building, you will spot a broken robot under a lamppost, next to a blue door. There’s an orange box beside the robot; climb it to reach the roof. Up there, you will find the Automech Replacement Parts that Hogarth needs.
Rewards
Once you have the parts, fast travel back to Westport and hand them over to Vigilant Hogarth. He will thank you for your help and reward you with 1080 XP, a unique repeater rifle called Emergency Stop, and the Writ of Conscription. The Writ of Conscription is an important key item that lets you sneak into the Vox Relay during The Saboteur of Paradise main quest.
