How to Get ‘Smoke Assists as Support’ Class Challenge – Battlefield 6

Smoke assists can be one of the trickiest Support challenges in Battlefield 6 to complete, mostly because the game doesn’t explain how they actually register. The key thing to remember: you’re rewarded not for throwing smoke, but for what happens inside it.

When your team downs or kills foes while you’re in your active smoke, providing you with cover, you will receive a smoke assist. Positioning, placement, and timing your team to fight within your haze are essential.

Releasing the Gear for Smoke Assists

You require the right gear prior to farming out the smoke assists. The Support career has a three-stage progression tree that opens up all you will require for this challenge.

Use the M320A1 Smoke Launcher and support it with Smoke Grenades to create layered screens, an Ammo Bag to resupply yourself, and Deployable Cover to add additional cover at smoke edges.

How to Get Smoke Assists Every Time

Think of yourself as a blocker. Your role is to remove the enemy vision either before or during a fight, creating a clear entry or a revive window of cover for your team.

  • Start smoking out enemy lines of sight, not your location. Smoke doors, headglitch boxes, flag lanes, or defenders’ locations they’re playing on.
  • Once the smoke out has happened, your team needs to play inside it for the assist to be counted — so timing is more than grenade spam.
  • String your smokes out. The assist window only lasts for a brief moment when the screen pops up, so refresh it maybe every ten seconds to maintain cover. Mark the route if the enemy team is slow to respond, and push through. Assists will not trigger if the engagement occurs outside of the smoke.
  • Smoke is great for revive plays. Once your friend dies, smoke in between them and the threat and get revived at the rear of the smoke. If your team has wins within that same window of smoke, those assists quickly accumulate.

You can anchor the edge of the smoke with Deployable Cover to give teammates a clear point to peek from. Drop an Ammo Bag nearby and you’ll passively rack up resupply points while farming assists.

Best Modes to Farm Smoke Assists

You’ll earn smoke assists fastest in modes with predictable fights and tight chokepoints:

  • Breakthrough is good since combat lanes are linear and easy to read — pre-smoking angles of importance here is not hard and replicable.
  •  Rush also works, since attack and defense merely cluster in doors and bomb sites, and an effective smoke can flip control.
  • On Conquest, mark contested flags or choke points between locations. Smoke the defender angles and re-smoke on a five-second cycle when they push.
  • Even the tank pushes can be goldmines: when pushing up with a friendly tank, smoke the anti-tank sightlines in front of it. The ensuing chaos typically results in several assists per screen.

(Pro tip: don’t blanket your own squad. Throw smokes forward to block the enemy’s view, not your teammates’.)

Why Smoke Assists Might Not Register

If you’re struggling to get assists to count, chances are one of these issues is to blame:

  • Your smoke’s in the wrong place, leaving enemies free to peek around it.
  • You’re throwing it too late — after the kill or once the fight’s over.
  • Your team isn’t pushing into the smoke, so no combat happens inside it.
  • Or you’re self-blinding your own team by covering their vision instead of the enemy’s.
  • To fix this, always smoke forward, communicate pushes, and refresh your screens proactively.

A Simple Repeatable Pattern

Here’s a rhythm that never fails:

  • Pre-rush, drop smoke on defender main line of sight and one off the flank.
  • Drop your Ammo Bag where bodies are clustered and deploy Deployable
  • Cover off the lip of the smoke. Ping the entry lane, trail in with your team, and start trading in from behind the screen.
  • Re-smoke the same lane around the ten-second point and push again.
  • Follow this flow across each objective and you’ll rack up smoke assists, revives, and resupplies all at once — the Support trifecta.
