In Ghost of Yotei, Sumi-e Paintings are beautiful collectable activities that let you see the world through Atsu’s artistic eyes. Scattered across Ezo, these painting spots allow you to pause, take in the scenery, and create traditional Japanese ink art. Completing all of them not only rewards you with unique headbands and masks but also unlocks the “An Artist’s Eye” trophy, marking your journey as a true artist of Ezo.

All Sumi-e Painting Locations (An Artist’s Eye Trophy Guide)

Sumi-e Paintings are one of the collectable activities you can find in Ghost of Yotei. These are scenic spots where Atsu stops to capture the beauty of nature using traditional Japanese sumi-e ink. When you discover one of these locations, you can interact with it to start painting.

As you paint, you’ll follow simple brush movements on your touchpad, guiding Atsu’s hand as she brings the scene to life. Completing all of these painting spots across Ezo unlocks the “An Artist’s Eye” trophy. Each Sumi-e Painting you finish rewards Atsu with a unique Headband. These are purely cosmetic; they don’t give any stat boosts or special effects, but they serve as stylish reminders of the landscapes you’ve painted through art.

Careful Pincers Sumi-e

You’ll find the Careful Pincers Sumi-e right by the Southern Coast, close to the Coastal Duelling Tree. The spot offers a calm seaside view that’s perfect for painting. After completing the painting, you will get a reward of the Hat of Curiosity.

Chasing Frogs Sumi-e

Head to Lake Jozan and look for a high vantage point overlooking the water. That’s where you’ll find the Chasing Frogs Sumi-e, a peaceful place where frogs hop around near the shore. After completing the painting, you will get a reward of the Hat of Youth.

Mount Yotei Sumi-e

This Sumi-e spot sits on the edge of Blooming Ridge Shrine, facing directly toward Mount Yotei. It’s one of the most breathtaking views in the game, a perfect place to capture the sacred mountain on canvas. You will be rewarded with the Headband of Yotei

Plum Crane Sumi-e

Travel to the Shikotsu River, just west of Atsu’s old home near Lake Shikotsu. There, you’ll find the Plum Crane Sumi-e, a serene place that reflects both nostalgia and peace. After completing the painting, you will get a reward of the Headband of Loss.

Chatting Crows Sumi-e

From the Ishikari Plain, follow the Nakagoya Spring heading east. You’ll come across the Abandoned Fishing Camp, and near it is the Chattering Crows Sumi-e. You’ll hear the sound of crows echoing through the area, adding life to your painting. After completing the painting, you will get a reward of the Hat of Messengers.

Crashing Waves Sumi-e

To find this one, travel southeast of Ishikari Plain to reach Otaru Beach. Once you arrive, climb the tall boulders that are tied together by ropes. The Crashing Waves Sumi-e is painted from this elevated spot overlooking the sea. After completing the painting, you will get a reward of the Headband of Defiance

Defiant Roots Sumi-e

Make your way up to the Rumoi River, where you’ll spot a high ridge overlooking a wide field of purple flowers. That’s where the Defiant Roots Sumi-e awaits, symbolizing strength and endurance. After completing the painting you will get a reward of the Headband of Fortitude

Free Skies Sumi-e

You can find the Free Skies Sumi-e on high ground overlooking the Ohara Plains. The view is open and full of life, a beautiful spot that truly embodies freedom. After completing the painting you will get a reward of the Mask of Freedom

Season’s Colors Sumi-e

Head into the Tomamu Marshlands, right beside the Dueling Tree, and you’ll find the Season’s Colors Sumi-e. It’s a colorful scene where every shade of the seasons comes alive. After completing the painting you will get a reward of the Headband of the Seasons

Frozen Moment Sumi-e

Follow the Teshio River all the way west until you reach the Black Dye House. Near the stream, you’ll find the Frozen Moment Sumi-e spot a quiet place where time feels like it stands still. After completing the painting you will get a reward of the Mask of Slumber

Howling Pack Sumi-e

Go past the Sentinel Forest and approach the Enduring Hold Shrine. Just before you enter, look for a ledge nearby that’s where the Howling Pack Sumi-e can be found. The distant cries of wolves give this place a wild and haunting energy. After completing the painting you will get a reward of the Headband of the Wild

Drying Bark Sumi-e

To find the Drying Bark Sumi-e, follow the river from Nayoro Falls heading east toward Iwor Woods. Across from a small bamboo house, you’ll spot the painting area surrounded by the whisper of trees. After completing the painting, you will get a reward of the Headband of Tranquility.

Peaceful Kotan Sumi-e

Starting from the Northern Ferry, take the flower-lined road uphill until you reach the mountain’s peak. There, you’ll find the Peaceful Kotan Sumi-e, offering a sweeping view of the valley below a perfect tribute to unity and calm. After completing the painting, you will get a reward of the Mask of Community

Lost Flight Sumi-e

You can find The Lost Flight Sumi-e in the Atago Rice Fields, close to the Atago Bamboo Strike. Look for a small hill at the edge of the map that’s where the painting spot is located. From up there, Atsu can capture the peaceful beauty of the fields below. After completing the painting, you will get a reward of the Mask of Remembrance.

Imperial Sakura Sumi-e 

You’ll find The Imperial Sakura Sumi-e inside the gardens of Matsumae Castle, just before you reach the shoreline. The spot overlooks a calm pond surrounded by cherry blossoms, a perfect setting for Atsu to capture on canvas. Take a moment to enjoy the peaceful view, then start painting your masterpiece. After completing the painting, you will get a reward of the Hat of Refinements.
