Silent Hill f lives on creepy puzzles, and one of the most memorable is found at the close of the Worship Hall area. After surviving the torture chambers of Rinko and Sakuko, Hinako must face a final test: reassembling Shu’s Memories. This puzzle isn’t so much about riddles as it is about recovering — you’ll need to search for Shu’s lost items strewn about the level and place them back on their pedestals.
This walkthrough will take you through each item’s location and the corresponding encounters, so you can finish the Memories puzzle without getting lost.
Beginning the Memories Puzzle
Following the use of the Tri-Scale Emblem Key and White Rabbit Emblem Key, the passage to Shu’s showroom becomes accessible. You’ll find his belongings put out there, albeit one or more will be missing based on your level of difficulty.
Grab the note next to the big double doors to officially commence the Memories challenge. Then, get set to exit the showroom and look for Shu’s precious objects.
Discovering the Drawing of Young Hinako
Difficulty: Only available in Hard and Lost in the Fog modes.
- Go through the sliding doors to the left of the note and proceed into a darkened hallway full of enemies. Take care of them before moving forward.
- Turn right in the corridor, where you’ll notice a creature slipping away. Follow it to a dead end, defeat it, and search the candlelit table at the far side. Here, you’ll find the Drawing of a Young Shimizu Hinako.
- This item reflects Shu’s childhood attachment to Hinako and only needs to be retrieved in the harder puzzle modes.
Birthing Mother Mini-Boss Encounter
Before you can move on to the next possession, you’ll encounter a horrific mini-boss fight against the Birthing Mother. The fight is meant to harass you with swarms of enemies and sanity drain, so it’s best to remain aggressive and keep up with the spawns early on.
- Enemy Spawns: The Birthing Mother vomits blobs of flesh that become monsters. Hit them before they hatch.
- Acid Spit: Look for the boss scrabbling its head back, then jump out of the way laterally of the projectile.
- Body Charge: Lunge forward when you get too close. Attack in quick spurts, then back off.
- Stun Shriek: An area-of-effect shriek lowers sanity and stuns you for a second. Get as far away as you can to reduce the effect.
Defeating the Birthing Mother not only cleans out the arena but also grants access to the second valuable possession.
Locating the Raygun
Difficulty: Only found in Lost in the Fog mode.
After the Birthing Mother drops, look through the unlocked medical cabinets in the boss room. There’s one that contains the Raygun, a toy-like object that exists only in Shu’s imagination.
This is his most difficult-to-find item, accessible only when playing the game on the most challenging difficulty setting.
Locating the Brainiac Hero Comic
Difficulty: Found in all modes.
From the boss level, go up. Go right at the landing, and you’ll find a table across from the fox gate switch. There is the Brainiac Hero Comic, the item you need in each level of difficulty, sitting there.
Don’t leave without pulling the lever close to the comic, which opens a short cut to the beginning area. It saves you the hassle of walking back through the corridors.
Solving the Memories Puzzle
After acquiring all of Shu’s belongings, go back to the showroom. Set each thing on its corresponding podium:
- Story Mode: Brainiac Hero Comic
- Hard Mode: Comic + Drawing
- Lost in the Fog Mode: Comic + Drawing + Raygun
Restoring Shu’s Memories will finish the Worship Hall sequence and advance the story into its subsequent phase.
