Completing the Borderlands 4 campaign is only the beginning. The real challenge starts in Ultimate Vault Hunter (UVH) mode, where the enemies get harder, loot gets better, and each encounter tries your build to the limits. UVH is divided into five ranks, each increasing difficulty but enhancing rewards. Players advance rank by rank through special missions, bosses, and Wildcard challenges.
Ultimate Vault Hunter Rank 1
Rank 1 Stats:
- +150% Enemy Health
- +12% Damage Taken
- +20% Cash & Eridium
- +10% XP
- Better Loot Quality
- Elemental Affinities intensified
UVH Rank 1 is unlocked as soon as the story epilogue. Lilith will guide you towards four missions:
- Zane’s Firmware
- Big Encore
- Maurice’s Bounty
Wildcard: Rush the Gate
The Wildcard mission concludes in a battle with Sol, which has Healthy, Vampiric, and Regenerative modifiers. Completing this automatically unlocks UVH Rank 2.

Ultimate Vault Hunter Rank 2
Rank 2 Stats:
- +200% Enemy Health
- +14% Damage Taken
- +25% Cash & Eridium
- +12.5% XP
- Loot Quality increased
To level up, players need to kill four bosses with UVH 1 conditions:
- Bio Armored Omega Thresher (Omega 86’d): Dominion’s Fades District. Locust to break armor → Cryo/Corrosive, then Fire.
- Bramblesong (Song’s Over): Stoneblood Forest’s Bittervein Mine. Giant kratch, fire weak.
- Bio-Bulkhead (Bio Break): Synthetic Nave, Dissected Plateau. Cryo/Corrosive is a must.
- Sydney Pointylegs (No Points Awarded): At Prospects Ripper Drill Site in the Fadefields. Mixed shields/armor/flesh — bring versatile weapons.
Later, Lilith sends Rush the Gate (Wildcard) again, finishing off Sol. Completing it unlocks UVH Rank 2.

Ultimate Vault Hunter Rank 3
Rank 3 Stats:
- +250% Enemy Health
- +16% Damage Taken
- +30% Cash & Eridium
- +15% XP
Four new bosses lie ahead:
- Shadowpelt (Pelted): At Whistler’s Maw Mine, Terminus Range. Invisible + regenerating shield → Shock and close-range power.
- Core Observer (Now Who’s Gonna Watch This Core): Blacklime Bunker, Fadefields. Shield → Armor → Shield loop. Shock + Corrosive.
- Rocken Roller (So I Felt Like): Trinket Crevass Mine, Carcadia Burn. Break the protective crystals first; Ordnance is good.
- Frank the Furnace (Blasted Furnace): Pitted Stain Drill Site, Fadefields. Joined by Sal the Engineer + Hank the Welder. Cryo/Corrosive + Fire to tackle everything.
Wildcard mission: His Vile Sanctum, completing with Vile Lictor under One Crit Wonder, Fortified, and Contagious. Crit-only kills require precision. Winning unlocks UVH Rank 3.

Ultimate Vault Hunter Rank 4
Rank 4 Stats:
- +300% Enemy Health
- +18% Damage Taken
- +35% Cash & Eridium
- +17.5% XP
Bosses to kill at Rank 3:
- Battle Wagon (Draggin’ Wagon): March Drill Site, Stoneblood Forest. Incendiary damage is most effective.
- Mimicron (But What If… You Were the Fake?): Tipping Point Bunker, Fadefields. Employing invisibility and calling on mimics. Shock on shields, Corrosive on armor.
- Boneface (Who Named This Guy): Old Scrape Drill Site, Terminus Range. IMMORTAL modifier active — concentrate fire with Shock and Fire weapons.
- Skull Orchid (Bloom Boom): Embossed Fault Mine, Carcadia Burn. Vulnerable spot is mouth tendrils; incendiary damage advised.
Wildcard mission: Her Flaming Vision, where players fight Callis under Quickened, Chain Master, and Chromatic modifiers. Easy once modifiers are handled. Completing it unlocks UVH Rank 4.

Ultimate Vault Hunter Rank 5
Rank 5 Stats:
- +350% Enemy Health
- +20% Damage Taken
- +40% Cash & Eridium
- +20% XP
- Max Loot Quality
The last push involves clearing all Primordial Vaults (Fadefields, Terminus Range, Carcadia Burn). Each has three enemy waves, modifiers, and a Primordial Guardian boss.
- Fadefields Vault: Inceptus (Shield + Health). Modifiers: Invisible, Contagious, Cold Hearted.
- Terminus Range Vault: Origo (element-shifting flying Guardian). Modifiers: Tricky, Centripetal, Immovable.
- Carcadia Burn Vault: Radix (shock-rock slams, shield/armor plating). Modifiers: Leaking, Ticking, Quickened.
Final Wildcard mission: The Timekeeper’s Order. Enemies spawn with Experienced + Strong modifiers. Boss has multiple phases with shield, armor, and flesh health bars, but no unconventional gimmicks.
Defeating the Timekeeper makes you Ultimate Vault Hunter Rank 5, the highest challenge level of Borderlands 4.
