In Disney Dreamlight Valley, Joy from Inside Out can join your village, but unlocking her takes a bit of work. Players must complete the “Dream On” quest, which begins in the Inside Out Realm and continues in the valley. From decorating a dream stage for Riley’s talent show to crafting a special light stick, here’s everything you need to know to welcome Joy home.
Unlocking Joy in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Joy doesn’t move into your valley right away—you’ll first need to help her out in a special mission. The quest is called “Dream On”, and it begins inside the Inside Out Realm before spilling over into Dreamlight Valley itself.
When you meet her, Joy is stressed about Riley’s talent show and is looking for ways to spark ideas. Since she and Sadness can’t use the usual Dream Production set, she finds another stage and asks you to help prepare it.
Your first task is to decorate this stage with three Elegant, gold-colored items found on the left side of the room: a globe, a fireplace, and a plant pot. Place them behind the piano to finish the setup, and don’t forget to change your avatar into Elegant clothing to match the theme. After running the dream sequence, check back the following day. Unfortunately, Riley’s dream doesn’t land well—it gets poor feedback. Joy then decides to try something new: making a light stick. At this point, she’s ready to move to the valley.
Once you’re back in Dreamlight Valley, you’ll have to spend 10,000 Star Coins with Scrooge McDuck to place the Emotions’ house. After Joy moves in, she’ll still need your help gathering items to build the light stick.
Dream On Quest Materials
To finish the quest, collect the following items and craft the light stick:
- Onyx → Random drop from mining any node.
- Topaz → Mined from rock nodes in the Plaza, The Docks, The Courtyard, or The Bind.
- Seaweed → Catch by fishing outside ripples, or craft 5 by converting 1 Red Algae.
- Blue Falling Penstemon → Grows in the Plaza, up to 4 at a time.
- Apple → Picked from trees in the Plaza or Forgotten Lands.
- Carrot → Buy seeds or crops from Goofy’s stall in Peaceful Meadow.
Bring these to Joy, craft the light stick, and hand it over. This completes the Dream On quest. Afterward, you’ll head back to the Inside Out Realm, where you’ll meet Sadness—though she’ll need some convincing before she can move in as well.
