This is not your standard boss fight or fetch mission—it’s a “Remembrance” quest that drops you into the harsh landscape of Limveld to find a whetstone, with little to direct you.
You’ll receive a vague hint from Iron Menial in the Roundtable Hold, who says something about a mine but doesn’t precisely assist you in coming up with a location. With Limveld being full of nearly identical-looking tunnels, this is easily a painful search. Don’t worry, though—we’ve hunted down the exact spot so you don’t have to go in completely blind.
Getting Started: What You Need to Know
This task is only possible when playing as Wylder. The other characters cannot trigger or fulfill it.
You will need to begin the quest by initiating an expedition in the Realm of Remembrance, which you can find in Wylder’s journal in the Roundtable Hold.
Where to Find the Whetstone in Limveld
Open your map and head for a mine indicated by an orange banner—your goal is located there. The whetstone itself will be located halfway through the mineshaft, radiating a gold glow and lodged in a mound of rocks. This mine was located in the southeast corner of the map for many players, but this may differ from game to game.
There are two different entry points to the mine, but since the item sits in the middle, either entrance works fine. Just be cautious—the area becomes unstable as the zone shrinks, and it’s easy to get trapped. It’s recommended to head straight there instead of wandering.
Pro tip: Move quickly with spectral hawks, and tap down on the D-pad to see the underground map of Limveld—really handy for traveling without getting funneled into a box.
What to Do After Grabbing the Whetstone
Once you’ve collected the whetstone:
- Complete your adventure—don’t need to win, just finish it to salvage the item.
- Return to Iron Menial at the Hold. You’ll find three rewards waiting for you, one of which is a half-repaired earring meant for the Duchess.
- Head into the next room (the one with the beds used to skip Shifting Earth events) and interact with the glowing prompt at the back to hold up both earrings.
- Finally, deliver the earring to the Duchess to wrap up the Remembrance.
Reward: Slate Whetstone Relic for Wylder
Slate Whetstone Relic is your reward. This is a relic that provides a unique bonus to Wylder’s grappling hook. Using the light attack button after grabbing in with a greatsword wielded, Wylder unleashes a blazing follow-up attack—his sword catches fire and bludgeons foes with added power. It is a useful upgrade that gives his combos some serious punch.
