Wood is a crucial resource for creation of weapons and gear, and making quick cash in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. Whether scavenging, buying from vendors, or chopping Wood at one of the designated Lumbering Spots, this guide lists all options available to players for resource gathering without spending a lot of money or wasting time.
How to Get Wood (Without Breaking the Bank)
Depending upon how much effort or gold you are willing to put down, Wood can be garnered in the following ways:
1. Pick it up
You will come across Wood very often when exploring in the game: inside crates, chests, and other loot containers. If you are lucky, you might not have to look far.
2. Buy it from blacksmiths
Most blacksmith NPCs would usually stock basic resources like Wood. So this is a good, straightforward option if you’ve got the gold to spare.
3. Chop your own at Lumbering Spots
Want to gather Wood for free? Head to a Lumbering Spot — these are areas with logs you can chop up with the right tool.
One reliable location is near the archery range at the keep in Horns of the South, right outside the Keeper barracks.
But first, you’ll need a Woodcutting Axe.
- These can drop randomly in the world.
- Or you can purchase one from Orlaith, the vendor by the keep’s main gate (she sells tools for all kinds of gathering).
Every swing of your axe gives you 3 pieces of Wood. Just note that logs don’t last forever — they’ll run out after a while. Luckily, they regenerate daily, so it’s not a one-time deal.
Pro tip: Set up a bonfire next to the Lumbering Spot. Once the logs are gone, rest for 24 hours, and at least a couple of logs will return. Need more? Rest another day and repeat.
What’s Wood Used For?
Wood is an essential crafting material. You’ll use it for making:
- Axes
- Spears
- Shields
- Arrows
If you’re grinding your Handicrafting skill, Wood becomes your best friend. These recipes don’t ask for rare stuff, which makes them perfect for quick skill boosts. Just keep in mind that crafting failures happen, and if something flops, you lose all the materials used — so be ready for a few duds.
Can You Make Gold With Wood?
Technically, yes. Each unit of Wood sells for 1 Gold.
You could farm it endlessly and sell it for profit — but honestly, it’s pretty slow. Still, if you’re just a few coins short for that one item you really want, it’s a decent fallback plan.
