Paint Cages in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are concealed containers scattered across the world-if you’re the type to explore every corner, you’ll be rewarded with these. Paint Cages are little puzzles that pop up throughout the game and offer solid rewards if you can crack them open. This guide will help with all the information you need to know about finding and opening Paint Cages.
How Paint Cages Work
You’ll first run into Paint Cages while exploring the Flying Waters area, and from there, they’ll show up more often as you progress. Opening these cages isn’t super difficult, but they can be a bit tricky. You need to find and shoot a few locks to get these but the problem is that sometimes these are hidden in plain sight, other times you’ll need to change your angle to spot them.
Flying Manor Paint Cages
At the Flying Manor, you’ll find two of these Paint Cages—one in Eveque’s area and the other in the Dualliste section. While the puzzles themselves aren’t too tough here, finding one of the cages can be a bit of a hunt.
The Flying Manor is also a big deal story-wise—it’s the resting place of a major character in Expedition 33. But to uncover more about them, you’ll need to defeat four bosses, each at the end of a different path. Two of those paths belong to Eveque and Dualliste, which are also where the Paint Cages are located.
Paint Cage 1: Eveque’s Area
- Start from the Plaza with the expedition flag.
- Look for a floating arch and head toward it.
- Walk along a painting frame to reach a hidden spot.
- Jump down into the corner—you’ll find the first Paint Cage there.
Locks to shoot
- One on the Eveque statue
- One under the stairs near a Bourgeon Nevron
Rewards
- Energising Stun Pictos (Lv 28)
Paint Cage 2: Dualliste’s Area
- Climb up by using the hidden ledges on the rocks to reach the Dualliste zone.
- You should spot Dualliste nearby—look for a partially hidden path next to them.
- Use your grapple to get across.

- One to the right as you enter the area
- One on a statue above you
- One more on a floating painting right above the Paint Cage
