How to Unlock Tier 2-3 Tools & Gear – RuneScape Dragon Wilds

Moving to higher-level tools is essential in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, and many players get stuck near the beginning. The journey starts at the crafting table with basic tools such as the stone axe and stone pickaxe. Soon afterward, the players can craft a bone pickaxe; however, the bone logging axe is nowhere to be found—for reasons unclear, the game skips this entirely. So the next logging axe does not come until later in the game.

Unlocking Tier 2 Tools in RuneScape Dragonwilds

To reach the second tier of tools, players must venture deeper into the world and locate specific crafting materials. This is typical of survival games—progression depends on finding the right resources to unlock new recipes. In Dragonwilds, crafting tier 2 (and eventually tier 3) tools and weapons requires both a Furnace and a Smithing Table.

These crafting stations are tied to resources found in the Fractured Plains. While copper is relatively common in this area, tin is much harder to locate. It is recommended to set up teleporters at key locations to make resource farming more efficient. Using map markers—especially the stone symbol—can help track these teleporter and ore spots.

Where to Find Tin and Copper

Tin ore is scattered throughout the Fractured Plains, especially along the crest lines on the right side of the region. Multiple tin deposits are concentrated in these areas, with some locations having five to six nodes clustered together. Copper can also be found here, often near tin, making it convenient for gathering both materials in one run.

Once enough resources are collected, a Furnace can be constructed. By smelting copper ore, tin ore, and charcoal, players can produce bronze bars. These are used to unlock and craft new equipment through various workstations such as the symithing Forge, Sawmill, Tanner’s Kit, and Loom. Creating the Smithing Forge specifically enables the crafting of tier 2 tools.

Tips for Base Building

Early in the game, it’s wise to keep bases small and efficient. Avoid overcommitting resources to large structures at the start. As progress is made, a larger, more permanent base can be established in Bramblemead Valley, which is considered a safe zone. This location is convenient for frequently returning to the wizard to accept new quests and serves as an ideal hub for long-term survival.
