Arguably, the best thing about Borderlands has always been its mind-bogglingly creative guns, and Borderlands 4 happily keeps that trend going. From saw blade-firing shotguns to missile-firing shields, Borderlands’ legendaries aren’t just amazing — they’re fashion-forward, outlandish, and ridiculously enjoyable to farm.
All Borderlands 4 legends have a unique drop source, so you can aim-farm some bosses instead of waiting for RNG. Below are ten of the strongest and most enjoyable legendary guns, shields, and pieces of equipment, their special effects, and where to farm them.
Hot Slugger

- Category: Jakobs Shotgun
- Effect: Blazing Barrel – +30% additional damage from all sources for 10s following a kill, up to 90%.
- How to Get: Callus, Nook of Craven’s supervisor, Order Bunker (Terminus Range).
The Hot Slugger is the game’s most sought-after weapon. With its one-bullet mag, it’s the perfect pairing with first-shot actions like Rafa’s Vitriol or First Impression. After it gets stacked, it’s a snowball of pure Jakob’s power, blasting enemies with searing damage.
Firewerks

- Type: Torgue Armour Shield
- Effect: Bundled – On kill, fires homing missiles at nearby enemies.
- Where to Find: Splashzone, the first story boss of the Fadefields.
Firewerks turns defence into offence. Every kill lets loose a salvo of homing missiles, making it one of the best mobbing tools in the game. It’s a great early game, but still useful because it is complementary with Kill Skills like Amon’s Pyroclast.
Hellfire

- Type: Ripper SMG
- Effect: Burning Desire – Heavy incendiary damage with harsh burn-over-time.
- How to Obtain: Sky Spanner Crotch, boss of Lambit Mine (Cuspid Climb, Terminus Range).
Simple but deadly. The Hellfire is excellent for incinerating flesh enemies because of the doubled-up incendiary damage. Anybody who builds into burn effects will adore this as a standard.
Linebacker

- Type: Torgue Shotgun
- Effect: Full Coverage – Bullets bounce, +25% damage and +35% blast radius per bounce.
- How to Obtain: Sky Spanner Crotch in Lambit Mine.
Linebacker is good in close spaces where its bouncy explosives will bounce around three or four times before exploding. It’s chaotic, it’s messy, and it’s probably one of the best shotguns to use for crowd control.
Swarm

- Type: Order Grenade
- Effect: Swoosh – Fires at enemies, explodes, then shatters into three tracking grenades (which shatter as well).
- How to Get: Sydney Pointy Legs, Prospects Drill Site boss (Hungering Plain, Fadefields).
The Swarm is simple mobbing. Fire one grenade, and it escalates into a chain of explosions that clear rooms. Pick it up early enough, and it’ll carry you through the mid-game for little to no effort.
Oscar Mike

- Weapon: Daedalus Assault Rifle
- Effect 1: Space Laser – Alt-Fire calls down an orbital bombardment every 60s.
- Effect 2: Tactical Rounds – The first half of the magazine utilises +50% bonus damage.
- How to Get: Genone in The Yawning Yard (Carcadia Burn), following the Fault Finding side quest.
Oscar Mike is essentially two legendaries in one. Its orbital laser is a cooldown mini-nuke, and its Tactical Rounds perk increases your standard gunplay. Play it with freeze or crowd-control builds and freeze the opponent in position for destruction by your orbital laser.
Rainbow Vomit

- Type: Jakobs Shotgun
- Effect: Colour Spray – Spews three random elements in droplet form.
- How to Get: Leader Willm, via questline Elect the Elect → The Mole’s Gambit (Carcadia Burn).
Rainbow Vomit is flexibility in gun design. Its three-element spray means you can handle nearly any kind of enemy, and the build synergies vary depending on what element it shoots. It’s crazy, rainbow-colored, and one of the game’s most unique shotguns.
War Paint

- Type: Torgue Repkit
- Effect: Chrome – Applied, grants +30% Fire Rate and +30% Movement Speed for 15s; cooldown reduced by 2s on taking damage.
- How to Get: Saddleback, Old Scrape Drill Site boss (southern Terminus Range).
War Paint is the antithesis of the majority of Repkits that are defensive-minded. It’s pure aggression. It enhances your mobility and fire rate, rewarding aggressive play and performing the gun-heavy builds like Rafa’s Overdrive wonderfully.
Lucian’s Flank

- Type: Vladof Assault Rifle
- Effect: Trample – Critical Hits restore up to 2 bullets to the magazine.
- How to Get: Saddleback in Old Scrape Drill Site (Terminus Range).
Lucian’s Flank is a DPS machine for crit-focused players. With its fast fire rate, large clip, and ammo-refill effect, it can feel nearly infinite if you’re landing headshots. Some variants even come with an extra barrel for ludicrous fire rates.
Aegon’s Dream

- Type: Vladof Assault Rifle
- Effect: Swaps between Incendiary and Cryo with every shot.
- How to Get: Horace in Horace’s Oversight (Hungering Plain, Fadefields), after the main quest Down and Outbound.
Aegon’s Dream is a love note to Game of Thrones, but not a gimmick. Switching between fire and ice shots keeps enemies constantly under status effects. Its massive magazine size and high fire rate make it one of the strongest element rifles in the game.
