Where Winds Meet – How to Obtain a Horse

Finding your first horse in Where Winds Meet isn’t as easy as you might think. The game grants you mounts, but it doesn’t exactly show you how to obtain a mount. Whether you would prefer to buy a horse, tame one in the wild, or just take one from a rider, there are several consistently reliable ways to get mounted early and travel faster.

Getting a Horse in Where Winds Meet

You won’t be given a mount automatically in Where Winds Meet, and the game doesn’t tell you how to acquire one upfront. However, there are reliable means to obtain your first horse. Whether you prefer to earn it, take it, or simply buy one, there are some options. You can get a horse by:

  • Buying a Mount: If you are not interested in stealing or taming a horse, here is the simple way to get one: you can buy one. Open the main menu, choose the Shop option, and pay attention to the Appearance icon. There, you will see a horse icon that will display any mounts available for purchase. Some mounts can be bought with in game money, but some may require real money.
  • Taking a Horse From a Rider: If you simply want a mount quickly, grabbing one from an NPC rider is usually the fastest method. During the story, you’ll eventually run into a quest called “A Horse Neighs in the Forest.” Two riders appear during this quest, and if you walk close enough to their horses, you’ll see an option to Snatch Horse. Selecting it lets you take the mount on the spot.
  • Catching a Wild Horse: Wild horses do spawn in open areas, though not very often. If you manage to spot one, sneak up from behind until the Capture Horse prompt appears. Capturing isn’t automatic—you’ll have to complete a quick reaction minigame where you match directional inputs with what appears on screen. The timing can be unforgiving, and failing the sequence means losing the attempt.

Note: Once you have a horse in your possession, you can summon it with 6 on a keyboard or Menu/Start + X when using a controller. To view all the mounts you own, open the main menu, go to Appearance, and check the Mounts tab at the top.
