In Where Winds Meet the Gathering of Heroes quest is where you get to experience the chaos of Revelry Hall. You will have to team up with Big Zhao to sneak into the hall, navigate the extravagant halls to find the Gold-Making Vessel, and fend off the illusions along with the numerous waves of enemies. You will also have to investigate other clues to complete sight and perspective, like the Broken Mask and seeking the advice of Master Pu to survive the Prefect’s deadly ultimatum in order to continue the quest into Chapter 2.
Sneaking Into Revelry Hall
When you arrive at Revelry Hall, talk to Big Zhao. He’s honest, saying that he wasn’t able to obtain an official Assembly Ticket, but he has a backup plan. Instead of going through the main gate in a more formal manner, you use the Boatman to sneak in, causing the scene to transition into a cinematic and entering you into the gathering of heroes.
Outside, Jianghu figures have gathered, and Velvet Shade Disciples are stationed at the entrance. The Joyous Couple challenge the guards, resulting in chaos, but before their momentum can build, Wen Wuque, the Ember of East, eliminates the guards with just one life coin.
Following that, you regain partial control. Big Zhao plots to sneak in under the disguise of everyone wearing Velvet Shade uniforms. The disguise works, but a disciple challenges Big Zhao’s face being covered. He is left to explain that covering his face is the only way to get past, as he has ringworm.
Inside the Hall
As you advance through the assembly, the hall is decorated grandly for the occasion. Follow Big Zhao through the hallways and all the way to the top floor, or the third level, to the private chamber of the Ember of East. A cutscene will introduce key players like Lord Shi, who represents the Song Dynasty, Dao Lord, and Shen Yilun from the Ever-Normal Granary.
The Gold-Making Vessel is revealed and its powers demonstrated, producing a dazzling outpouring of coins. Chaos ensues when an explosion interrupts the ceremony. Lord Shi is knocked down but saved by guards, while an eagle swoops in to snatch the vessel. Heroes scramble to claim it, and a fight breaks out.
Combat Sequence: Trapped in Illusion
During the conflict, you become trapped in a vision where it appears you hold the Gold-Making Vessel. Waves of enemies assault you from all directions in a compact arena, forcing careful movement and strategic dodging.
After breaking free, you leave the platform, but enemies continue to attack. Big Zhao arrives to assist, giving you a momentary reprieve. Lord Shi then checks the bag you carry, only to discover it does not contain the vessel, setting up the next stage of the story.
Confrontation with the Prefect
The Prefect of Kaifeng arrives to inspect the Gold-Making Vessel. To everyone’s surprise, it has been replaced with a chamber pot. Suspicion immediately falls on you and Big Zhao, who entered without Assembly Tickets.
Despite Big Zhao’s defense, the Prefect remains resolute. He gives a strict deadline: locate the true thief within seven days or face death via the Soulbreaker Pill. Your dialogue choices—resist, surrender, or accept—do not change the outcome: you are forced to swallow the pill. Big Zhao is taken aside for a private discussion with the Prefect.
Investigating the Explosion
With the Soulbreaker Pill looming over you, it’s time to search for clues. Head to a nearby balcony to overhear Big Zhao and the Prefect. During the conversation, a major revelation occurs: the two are brothers.
Once he rejoins you, explore freely. On the upper floor near the explosion site, you discover a critical item, the Broken Mask. Give it to Big Zhao, who tells you it should be shown to Master Pu, the Know-It-All of Kaifeng, for identification.
Consulting Master Pu
Travel to the Entertainment District via Boundary Stones. Meet Big Zhao there and approach Master Pu. Before talking, pick up a book lying nearby titled The Analects. Master Pu confirms the mask belongs to the secretive Nine Mortal Ways organization and directs you to the Ferryman in the Forsaken Quarter to continue the investigation. This concludes the Gathering of Heroes quest.
